You can get a similar result by buying yourself a personal HDD recorder, but probably won't work with Sky to record multiple series etc.

Plus there's the possibility of them scrapping the £10 per month to use it.

I was looking at Sky HD the other day. As far as I can see it costs an extra £10 a month for the HD subs but Sky + functionality comes as standard. In effect there's no difference between the price you pay for a Sky HD service and the price you pay for regular Sky +. Anyone know if I've read that right?
OK I know the box costs more but it's the ongoing costs that are the killer so after a year or two there's not much to choose.

I wouldn't get HD at the mo - the prices will drop over the next year for the box anyway (if past technology advance prices are anything to go by). Wait and see if they cancel the £10 for sky plus as its supposed to happen next month. I couldn't live without mine now - love it love it love it

I cancelled a few weeks ago (due to be disconnected this weekend). At the time I was on phone for 30 minutes and they would not offer me a deal, just different combinations of packages/broadband/SkyTalk, etc.

So, called again to see if they could offer anything now. Asked the guy about deals. He sounded really fed up, as if that is all people have asked him all day.

His tone was 'Nope, no deals, definately not, stopped doing deals in October, nope, nothing, zilch, tough luck'

    (not exact quote, but close).

So anyone who does get a deal, count yourself lucky, I think there are very few about.

Phoned Sky today to ask if they would do an offer on the Sky+ box.
Said the usual sort of thing; local customer, also take broadband from you, & mentioned that NTL were doing a much better package by offering their new TV Drive Box (the equivalent to Sky+) at no extra cost.

True to form I was fobbed off & Sky would not budge.

At this pint, I said I was going to cancel & move to NTL. Immediately I was transferred & offered Sky+ at half price with FREE instillation.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but thought I would share this gem of information with you all...

Sky don't like to lose a customer either, I have been with them for three years then my equipment started to play up, I phoned them and they said it would be a £60 call out charge plus repairs on top, I said that was too much and I was NOT going to pay it and said I would go to NTL they then put me through to the cancellation department and they talked me into staying with them by agreeing a £30 call out and no more charges for repairs! It was great when the engineer came he was sure it was the dish replaced it, it still wouln't work then he gave me a reconditioned box so I got two replacements. new dish new box all for £30

I am moving house next month so phoned sky looking to get set-up with sky + with the sports package (ive never had sky before) - they were wanting £99 for the sky + box and £60 for installation, total rip-off I.M.O, any way of haggling with them? - my brother as a new customer in the summer last year got free sky + box / free insatllation and 3 months half-price rental - Dont like how they can sway there prices so much! may just wait untill andother 'intro deal' comes up

Why not cancel sky at your current address and get then get a new customer deal at your new address.

I dont have sky at my old address - Ive never had it - thats why im so annoyed that they want £160 from me as a brand new customer - especially whem my bro as a new customer got a free sky + box, free installation and 1/2 price sky for 3 months when he joined as a new customer just a few months ago!!!

Careful with that - you're applying for an account so they do background checks as if you were applying for credit. Conversation will be:

SKY - and how long have you lived at your address?
    You- I've just moved in
SKY - what was your previous address?
    You - [tells them]
SKY - oh I see you were a customer, I'm afraid we can't give you the new offers

If you try this one, make sure your previous address didn't have a Sky customer living there.
