Hi all

Ebaying a load of stuff for an elderly relative who is very ill

Having stated in huge bold font on all auctions that I am listing onbehalf of a seller who physically is unable to get out and that it is collection only, full postcode, town and county is given in

BOLD bigger than above at the top of the listing info and before any item info

Im guessing you are getting my point by now ;)

So far many items have been sold out of these one was based 400 miles away and the other even further.
I amicably agreed to cancel the sale as they both stated it was a genuine mistake

Get an offer on an item ring relative who agrees to sell at lower price, accept offer
Then realised that buyer was way up north ! took a deep breath and thought well I want to help the seller so I will drive the 30 mile round trip collect the item and post for them
Send the offer buyer an invoice quoting £5 postage this is a reasonably heavy item and will cost me £4+ for recorded delivery

Buyer came back and said i'm not paying that for postage

I emailed back explaining that I accepted the offer in good faith believing they were going to collect and that was a stipulation of the sale, that I had to drive 30 mile round trip to get it and post it and I thought I was being very reasonable

Buyer comes back you seem angry by your reply just agree to cancel the sale others people do it all the time

I'm annoyed because she does not seem to think she is taking the P***

Should I log a NPB (how many others has she done this to) or cancel sale and have to re list :( (I did have 7 watchers on the item )

What would you do I think it flies in the face of what ebay is, you offer they buy surely it's a contract

You have modified the contract by adding a postage charge which has angered the buyer.
Can you reason with your buyer that the sale was collect only as stated and a minimal postage charge has to be added for the inconvenience of posting the item.

Try & let it go - some folks are just sooooooooooo annoying that we can only be grateful we are not related to them nor neighbours.

I didn't modify the contract ? postage wasn't offered she modified it by not reading it
And the charge is not for me collecting etc it's for the approx postage which is what I told her :(

Personally I'd open a NPB after 4 days, and point out it's COLLECTION ONLY, as stated on the auction.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

So you didn't add a postage charge on the invoice?
and you can't reason with the buyer?
I agree that they can't read.

You've been more than fair!! She is taking the mick!! Tell her you'll actually be out of pocket and say to her she hasn't read it properly and therefore if she doesn't pay and come and collect the item (as specified) then you can open a non paying buyer dispute...say to avoid this then you'd need to agree to the postage charge...I don't see how you've been unfair in the slightest!!

OP I can understand why you're annoyed and I agree buyer is taking the pee, but for the sake of a quiet life I'd just cancel and re-list if it was me. I'd also block her from bidding on your auctions in future, just in case.

  • So you didn't add a postage charge on the invoice?

Are you suggesting I should post it for free ?
I tried to reason with her I explained that for recorded delivery because of the weight was £4+

She wants it cheap and at below cost postage do you really think that is fair

You can't do that - you are not allowed to add to anything after the end of the auction. It's not fair to the buyer who bid in good faith to stick on an extra charge that they didn't agree to when they bid, whether they bid rightly or wrongly.

Either you cancel the sale (allowing them to withdraw amicably) or you brace yourself for a protracted struggle with an NPB dispute, but it would be a better idea to pull out.

You are annoying the buyer and you shouldn't be forcing them to accept an additional charge, whether or not they also make a mistake.
