Megabus refusing refund

Hi, I bought tickets to Dundee from Glasgow on megabus.co.uk this morning so I could go view a flat, but got a phone call at 5pm telling me it had been taken, so now I have useless bus tickets.
I called megabus to ask for a refund but they say the terms and conditions don't allow refunds in the 24 hours before the tickets are to be used. I asked to speak to someone higher up and got the same response.
I thought that all online purchases were legally protected and you could cancel an order or get a refund up to 7 days after purchase - if that's not the case, is there anything at all I could do to get a refund? I paid way too much for the tickets to want to just allow them to !!!! me over (almost £30).
I'm in Scotland, in case the laws are different here.

Hi C_L!
I'm afraid their standard terms do say that refunds can only be processed if they're requested more than 24 hours before travel... that's so that they have a chance to resell your tickets.
I'm gutted for you (I've lost out on similar clauses before now) but I can't really see a way out. Maybe someone else will know something I don't.
Maybe you'd enjoy a nice day out in Glasgow?? Or can find another flat to look at tomorrow?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

From the OFTs guide to the DSRs...2.20 The requirements to provide pre-contractual information, written and additional information, the right to cancel and the obligation on the supplier to carry out the contract within a maximum of 30 days do not apply to the following types of contract...- Contracts to provide accommodation, transport, catering or leisure services (for example hotel accommodation; plane, train, or concert tickets; car hire or sporting events) where you agree to provide the service on a specific date or within a specific period. However, long-term residential hotel accommodation agreed under a distance contract may be considered to be rented accommodation and therefore subject to the DSRs.
Sorry, but you did agree at the time of purchase that the tickets were non-refundable.0 -
I know what you mean. I put 5 gallons of petrol in my car a fortnight ago as i was planning a trip to visit relatives. Unfortunately they decided to go away ,probably becuase I'm such a tedious tw$t that they didnt want me visiting. I siphoned the petrol out and took it back to Abdullahs petrol station up the road but the blighter wouldnt buy it back off me !Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I do have another flat to view tomorrow, which I suppose I may as well go see now, but I was most excited about the flat that got cancelled - was £55 cheaper, closer to town, and on my favourite road in Dundee.
I'll just go and view this other flat anyway. My Glaswegian blood is urging me to vandalize the seats of the bus with a stanley knife, though!0 -

I'm pretty sure carrying a stanley knife is against the law, or are you a carpet fitter ?0
