Oh boy, I really have got a lot to learn. Have now downloaded Malwarebytes and am running a scan. Hopefully it will sort my probs. Failing that, I'll have a go at option 2 but that one looks a bit scary for a non-techie.
Will take on board your advice re my anti-virus. Ta.
Thanks again to everyone.

OK, exasperation over.
Go into Windows Explorer - right-click on C: and select properties - how much free disc space do you have? Is there a
drive? Do the same for that - how much free space?
Right-click on My Computer from the Start Menu and Properties again - click the General tab and the last line should state how much RAM you have - please tell us.0 -

Why is BT involved? 32/62? Que?
Why couldn't you delete the temp files?
Is it ONLY your internet application that runs slowly? Do other applications run slow? If so, what are they?0 -

Don't worry about post #2. You won't have to do it alone.0 -

Sorry if I seem a bit dense Googler but this isn't my field of expertise, but I am trying to learn.
Used space on my C-drive is 41.6GB, free space 29.5. I suspect this is better than it was this morning, thanks to the CClean and Malware scan (which detected and resolved a couple of probs)
There is no D-drive
RAM - 1.86GHz / 512 MB of RAM
And BT were involved because I thought I had a problem with their broadband. The guy had remote access to my laptop and tried to find out why my laptop was running so slowly. He could see that I had too many temporary files - I'm hoping the CClean has deleted most of them now. He checked my CP usage and said it was too high and was slowing down my computer. Also, every so often I've been getting a pop-up saying that my virtual memory is low and needs to be extended - I'm hoping this has been resolved now. We'll see.
Google Chrome is definitely opening much quicker now, but Internet Explorer is still a bit slow.
Things do seemed to have improved following the advice you've all given me.
Thanks.0 -
Take it easy.... the OP has very little knowledge of these things.
We'll get it sorted from here.
It's just a series of questions, with no agitation or impatience implied. I know the OP has little knowledge, that's why I'd like to know what he's referring to as 32 or 62 ....
OP, could you go check the Virtual Memory settings;
Right-click on My Computer, Properties and click Advanced tab. First option should be Performance with a Settings tab. Click Settings then Advanced tab, and third option down is Virtual Memory. What's the Total Paging File Size for all Drives?0 -
Hi TakeThis. I tried to send you a copy of the Malware log and the CClean text, but as a new user I am apparently unable to send replies with links.
If it's ok with you, I can email you the info but no prob if not.
Thanks so much for taking the time to help.
Rgds

Hi Googler,
Total page file size for all drives is 768 MB.
No offence taken by the way.....just appreciate your help.

ok post number 2 might look scary but read it, it is done in some very easy to follow steps, just read it through follow each step one at a time (such as you have already downloaded and ran Malwarebytes, hopefully a full scan and not just quick - full usually takes between one hour and 2 hours, quick scan in about 5-10 mins,
if so post the log - open it up again and there is a tab at the top called logs, open it and post the contents of the log on here, you have now done step 3 of the post
CCleaner has also been ran - this is step 2
could do with step 1 which is hijackthis
Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0
