RBS - No thanks

Yorkshire BS merely use Nat West as their agent bank because it is cheaper for them rather than doing it themselves.
In theory tomorrow they could turn round and open an account with a different bank to do the same thing.
It may not work as RBS might be able to tell its not a RBS group account at payroll.
However, I don't agree with your reasoning about change, we are not talking about one small clearance account, but a whole sort code that is allocated to the Building Society whilst remaining a NatWest sort code. Change is not a sort term option!

It would allow the original poster to get paid to RBS group details, whilst retaining privacy over spending etc, which I guess is what he/she wants to achieve.

Also, in November you'll be able to transfer same day between banks for free, You could just phone/ login and move it all away before work in payday morning. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Heng Len I maintain that Yorkshire Building Society are not part of the RBS group in any way and therefore your plan would not work.
People working in financial services must understand that they have to be seen as whiter than white when it comes to dealing with their own accounts.
Having said that if the OP 's employers wanted to know everything about all of her bank accounts I have no doubt they would have copies of everything within the hour!!
I am amazed about what my 'credit scoring' referal desk can tell me about a potential new customer to the extent of telling me what their passport number should be! !0 -
I'm aware that, all being well, same day/next day payments should be in place later this year.Heng_Leng wrote:Also, in November you'll be able to transfer same day between banks for free...
However, I've yet to see confirmation that the service will be free. Please could you provide a source for your "for free" statement.0 -
To a certain extent it might already be in place.
My EGG d/d was debited to my bank account on the 25th and was shown as a credit to my card on 26th!

Is there anyway you can find out what sort of things they can find out about you. I was refused a flexi account with Nationwide because they say I'm not on the voters list.I've got the form to send away, will send it next week to the Electoral Registration office although I've been at my present address over three years. They want a Council Tax bill but the only one I can find at present is from Dec 2003 and they say that's too old.
I just wonder if there is any other reason as they insist they must have the Council Tax bill and nothing else is acceptable. The letter says "unfortunately we are unable to exercise any flexibility in these circumstances". Their booklet says they will accept lots of things for proof of address.
Perhaps something that they're not telling to me. I already have a Clydesdale current bank account that I opened two years ago from my present address. They didn't worry about the voters list or Council Tax bill.
Thanks for any advice.0 -
I don't know the answer about Nationwide as I don't work for them and have never had an account with them.
Surely you can ring your local tax office and ask for a replacement bill ?
The only reason I can think of that they are acting in this way is perhaps there has been fraud activity with someone with a similar name to you (have you ever been the subject of having your ID highjacked or stolen?) or previous problems with someone at your address.
Why they will only accept Council tax bill - who knows?0 -
OK thanks.
I have an unusual surname,. never had any problems with ID hijacking.
I don't know who lived here before me,so it remains a mystery why they are being awkward.
Perhaps they have me down as a drug dealer and international fraudster. :j0 -
we have also been through the threat of disciplinary action if we don't open a group bank account - we were taken over by RBS a few years ago and didn't have to open the account at the time. That was last month, and we all complied. Then last week they announced about 30% redundancies at our site - but no details like who/when, apart from there's no recognised union at our site so we're on our own, is this correct? ... I would resign but would like to get the (coincidentally recently reduced by RBS) redundancy payout ... anyone affected will of course be closing their recently-opened group account!0

What about loyality to your employers. Why give another bank your business. With me I am in a profit share and the more business we get the bigger the share.0

Although I agree with your sentiments, don't staff get preferential rates (which will not make the Bank so much money?);)Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0
