Hi, I am looking for advice on changing my sons name. His surname is his fathers and was registered in 2002. I know i cannot remove it from his birth certificate but can i change it without his fathers permission? If so how much will this cost? Many Thanks Angie

Hi yes, it is easily done, I did, my daughter was registered in 2003, father did not have PR (thank God!) and I did it through a solicitor, and so it was covered by legal aid as I was on full benefits at the time.
As I remember it was a very quick process, I didn't have to go to court or anything, and her father was not contacted.

  • I used The Deed Poll Service to change my name by Deed Poll last year. Not the cheapest around but well worth the extra money after the experience i had trying to use a DIY document that i bought of some internet site. The Deed Poll was accepted by all the gov departments (Passport Office, DVLA, HMRC, Etc) and private companies that i have sent it to.

India, just be aware that this poster * may * ( ) have a connection with "The Deed Poll Service" (given that their only 2 posts have been to advertise this service).

    Consider the source ;)

    Strapped,

I am in no way connected with the company that i recommended. I am simply still subscribed to the Google Alert service for pages relating to Deed Polls because i was researching the subject when i changed my name.

When i got the email notifying me of this post i thought i would come and offer some advice as i have had experience.

    Thanks,

I have read some of the posts here. I would just advicse everyone to use the service that I used last year to change my kids names.

    http://www.deedpolllegal.co.uk -

this website is full of upto date info and they are backed up by the UKPA and the DVLA. I had no problems at all.

I think I paid £12.99 but it may have gone up since then.

Like I said , Full of upto date info

I'm sure it's a coincidence that the domain is registered to an ANDREW and - amazing - you're based in Manchester. The above is a LIE ou did not use your own service.

    hmm... intriguing.

I changed all my kids name to my husbands name (not his children) when i got married, they didnt contact their biological father, and my husband didnt have to adopt them.
I did it through a soilicitor who didnt change much and let me pay weekly on a payment card to spred the cost.
