I like the sound of the peach pudding...and the lady who said her hormones took over and made her eat chocolate. Will remember that one ;)
I feel a bit better today but the RV has decided to have aVERY ratty day and we are stalking around the house ignoring each other. Not easy when we keep piling up in doorways :D7 week wonder- I just keep forking the run over, it drains the liquid mud away and uncovers new worms, it looks a hellish mess but the hens seem to like it.I didnt think the last thread was downbeat at all, I think some of us have to face life head-on and deal with it, while others have to be all bright & cheerful. Doesnt matter in the least as long as we get by.

I'm a Spiritualist and had a Spiritualist minister for my dad's funeral, was lovely. My take on death is probably a bit different to most folk so I will keep quiet on it :D I can, sometimes!
Re hens - Ginnyknits told me to try cod liver oil, and since I got it mine have started laying again. A capful in their mash every second day, and a couple spoonfuls of cat food every other second day. If that makes sense :D
The cookery book that somebody recommended and that sounded really good is megabucks on Amazon. I will wait lol.
Tonight's tea was even more gruesome than usual... I make truly hellish cauliflower that tastes of sewage, so tonight I pulled all the stops out and decided it was going to be GOOD and that we were going to EAT VEG OR DIE...
Cooked cauli in pressure cooker and stank the house out. Had to open windows to stop ourselves heaving.
Drained it and slopped a pkt of white sauce onnit then grated cheese over.
Used a week's supply of gas to get the bloody thing to go brown & crispy.
Tasted like sewage with cheese on. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Try apple/cider/vinegar for your hens, its brilliant you can buy it at any pet store, it cures no end of hens ailments.......:)

Please pm me about spiritualist, im very very interested..thanks .

May I have the sourdough recipe pretty please........

Hello from a lurker and very occasional poster. Aaah, the talk of men in leather trousers takes me back :) I'm sure my current OH would not go anywhere near that kind of thing, he's not tutti frutti at all ;)

My mum bought me a slowcooker years ago and I make lots of beany veggie soups in it, bottom of the fridge stuff, nomnomnom
  • Greyqueen I have had an arogs/cookworks slow cooker (the little one) for a few years now. It does the job - for about £15 I can't complain. If I'm being picky, the lid doesn't quite "seal" onto the top of the crock, the crock is now stained a bit on the outside (my fault for dribbling sauces!). The lower temp is a little too low (a very slow simmer - eventually) and the higher temp is a little too high to be left on all day (it just catches/scorches around the level of the liquid).

    Hope that's useful!

    Hello to everyone else!

I've spent far too much in various supermarkets, but some freezer drawers are now full. I had grilled chicken thighs for tea, stuffed with red pesto. It worked ok, the the pesto taste didn't come through as much as I'd like :(

I browsed around some charity shops but didn't see anything. I'm looking for curtain inspiration - I have a pair of long, gorgeous curtains and I'm loathe to cut the fabric. At the moment they kinda fit two different windows (i.e. one curtain each) and scrape the floor. The radiaors are underneath the windows though, so I want to raise the curtains to windowsill height. I did think of just folding them in half and a quick seam along the top, but I'm worried the bottom/outer half would fade in the sun? And then I tried it, and if I did them in half they'd end up about an inch too short....

So then I was wondering about some kind of fabric panel to extend them, but that doesn't solve the fading, and then I was wondering if I could make them into some kind of blind without damaging the fabric...?? :undecided Any sewing/design queens (or kings) out there??

As for the Grim Reaper, I want a wool coffin and to be buried somewhere remote - maybe East Yorkshire :A

Mardatha - my DS oc therapist has said that my craving for chocolate is my bodies way of dealing with the stress and that I should indulge and not feel guilty!! :j
I agree the last thread was not down beat - in fact it was probably the funnest in ages.
A new thread always starts very fast moving but usually slows to a more manageable pace - I find I keep up when things settle and can keep up with who is who and things when things settle.

I think the new shiny (slightly used now) thread is just as lovely as the old (very knackered) one was - but please, no more talk of wills and funerals and things. I have a really bad chest infection atm (coughing up rusty sputum, pain in ribs type of thing) and I'm feeling really !!!!!. The house is a mess (no change there then) coz OH doesn't notice it. My funeral plan's paid up and, the way I'm feeling at the moment, might well come into force soon.
Sorry.....feeling frustrated because anti bios don't work immediately and I'm fed up!

 I hope you feel better soon, chest infections are horrible. The best thing you can do is lounge around doing nothing until you feel better. My doctor told me off for doing too much when I had one and it definitely makes it worse. Dunelm Mill is opening on the site of the old morrisons on the 27th, maybe promise yourself a gentle look around if you are feeling better?

edit: does anyone know any way of recycling a used mobile phone battery? It's completely had it and I'm loath to throw it away.

Im also enjoying the new "Tough" thread.

Without wishing to go off topic and in particular response to Ceridwen's posts on dying, I would like to mention Organ Donation.

So today I have spent putting together my shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child and have really been enjoying it. Really puts my life and worries into perspective and will hopefully make Christmas less tough.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
