Due to the battery in my Sonicare getting worse and worse (had it for over 4 years), I decided to invest in a new electric toothbrush. After carrying out a bit of research* to decide which item to go for, I opted for the Oral-B Triumph. I decided upon this item instead of the Oral-B 8500 (currently £37.50 at Amazon) as it chooses the speed modes for the different brushheads. Yes it is nearly double the price but if I get a similar usage compared to my Sonicare, then the yearly cost will be rather low and I know that I am using each brushead at the optimal speed level. I was a little concerned that by using Triumph brushheads with the 8500 at a higher speed than required ( as the 8500 allows you to step change the speed - so I imagine that you have to guess the optimum speed for the different brushheads whilst the 9500 automatically selects which programme to use) may not be good for my teeth.

I found that this website seems to have the best price for the Oral-B 9500 DLX Triumph (currently £72.50 inclusive of VAT and free UK delivery). The Floss and Pro Bright brushheads are also sold for £7.99 for a pack of 2. However minimum spend is £15 on the website which includes P&P in the UK.

The website also stocks a range of dental care so may be worth checking out.

    The website address is:
    http://www.dhbdirect.co.uk

As I only placed my order last night, I cannot comment on delivery or the item as orders usually arrive within 7 days.

    * current research material found on the Web shows that Oral-B toothbrushes are more effective than Sonicare brushes at removing plaque due to the number of oscillations that the 7000, 8000 and Triumph series Oral-B toothbrushes perform).

Forgot to include in my original post this American website that I came across which contains links to research papers etc:

    Hi,

Thanks for the info - I just spent 2 days trying to find a cheaper price than ebay and you have just provided it! - hurrah!

I might just add that Boots have just reduced this model to £82.50 with free delivery - not sure if its the same price if you go in the store in person.

    Best wishes

    Hi,

Am having fun and games with Boots - I decided that with the 659 points and then an additional 1000 points for spending over £75 - it was better to buy the toothbrush from Boots as it is effectively like getting £16.59 off the price of £82.50 = £65.91.

I printed off the 1000 extra points voucher and tried to buy the toothbrush in the store - however it was pointed out to me at the til that the extra 1000 points is only for an online purchase - the checkout operator told me that its not very clear and that people keep making the same mistake.

I had also asked the manager if they would price match the DHB offer of £172.50 and took a print out of the offer - she told me that Boots only price match other 'shops' not online sellers as they operate a 'like for like' comparison. I was also told that the 1000 extra points would automatically be added on at the website.

So I came home and rang the online store and asked them if they would price match the online store as Boots operate a like for like price comparison - I was told that Boots.com is a totally separate company to Boots shops and that they do not use a like for like comparison - so they wouldn't price match either.

I mentioned that they both seem to run the same offers and he said that they do run the same promotions! It's all a bit confusing really...

I had wasted half an hour trying to send an e-mail asking about all of this but the guy on the phone told me that the website was experiencing 'technical difficulties' so it might not get through.

I asked him why the additional 1000 points offer is not mentioned at the website and he said it must be an 'error' on their part too.

I was hoping that Boots might have been a bit more cooperative or offered me some extra points or something in light of the problems I had experienced especially after reading Martin's article about Boots and that it was worthwhile haggling with them - but the guy I spoke to at Head Office just gave me the CEO's name and address to write to.

Oh well - I'll try a letter detail my adventures trying to buy this toothbrush. Also if the 1000 extra points don't show on the purchase I have the voucher printed off which details the dates of the offer which is up to the 24 April.

Just to update you - I found that despite the website being technically challenged that my e-mail had made it through but I hadn't had a reply so I called the online site again only this time I called the 'advantage points' line.

The staff there are great - friendly and helpful. They were appalled at the amount of hassle I have had and immediately offered to put the 1000 extra points on my card which would appear as soon as I made the purchase and also offered me another 500 for the hassle.

Added on to the 330 points I get for buying the brush which I have now done - hurrah! - that's 1830 points or £18.30 off the brush which makes it a better offer than the DHB one.

If you have a problem with the code for the extra 1000 points just call the advantage points phone number and they will sort it out for you!

Looking forward to my gleaming smile;-)
