Oral-B 9500 DLX Triumph

Due to the battery in my Sonicare getting worse and worse (had it for over 4 years), I decided to invest in a new electric toothbrush. After carrying out a bit of research* to decide which item to go for, I opted for the Oral-B Triumph. I decided upon this item instead of the Oral-B 8500 (currently £37.50 at Amazon) as it chooses the speed modes for the different brushheads. Yes it is nearly double the price but if I get a similar usage compared to my Sonicare, then the yearly cost will be rather low and I know that I am using each brushead at the optimal speed level. I was a little concerned that by using Triumph brushheads with the 8500 at a higher speed than required ( as the 8500 allows you to step change the speed - so I imagine that you have to guess the optimum speed for the different brushheads whilst the 9500 automatically selects which programme to use) may not be good for my teeth.

I found that this website seems to have the best price for the Oral-B 9500 DLX Triumph (currently £72.50 inclusive of VAT and free UK delivery). The Floss and Pro Bright brushheads are also sold for £7.99 for a pack of 2. However minimum spend is £15 on the website which includes P&P in the UK.

The website also stocks a range of dental care so may be worth checking out.

The website address is:

As I only placed my order last night, I cannot comment on delivery or the item as orders usually arrive within 7 days.

* current research material found on the Web shows that Oral-B toothbrushes are more effective than Sonicare brushes at removing plaque due to the number of oscillations that the 7000, 8000 and Triumph series Oral-B toothbrushes perform).

Forgot to include in my original post this American website that I came across which contains links to research papers etc:

Hi Saf, I received the 8500 this week from Amazon. I was a bit disappointed at first. The handle looked a bit weird, the tongue cleaner didn't fit into the holder unit. The holder unit itself was a bit rattly/flimsy and really needs to be attached to a wall. HOWEVER, once I started using the brush I knew I had made a good choice. It feels powerful (compared to my old £10 power toothbrush) and somehow professional. I'm sure you'll be delighted with the brush itself. Don't be alarmed by the 30 second signals; the motor stutters making you think the machine is defective rather than alerting you to move on to another "quadrant".
I hope this has been useful.

    Lifes too short!
  • I did a long post to hopefully save people spending lots of time from researching which toothbrush to buy and where to get it from at the best price (UK shop price, not from an Ebay seller). I even included the best alternative product and price at the time of writing.

Seeing as the retail price is £164.99. Paying a total of £72.50 inc VAT and P&P is quite a saving for the Triumph Deluxe model.
  • Alright. I can see some logic in a £72 toothbrush being better because it is half price. But does this equate to a better saving than a 37.50 one?

Answer - no. High-end consumer products are the ones companies ream the most profit from. Large profit margins indicate a larger ability to reduce prices and also indicate poor value for money.

In short, why pay £72 for a toothbrush that is probably only in real value (to produce etc) only worth £10 more than the 37.50 one.

This is money savers after all!!
    Link now removed! sorry

When I bought mine at the end of last year (triumph 9500 professional) it had a guarantee in it. It effectivly lets you use it for up to 2 years then, if you deem it to be not worth it, get a refund. smashing! This is what the guarantee says :-

Improved oral care does not happen overnight. At Oral-B, we recognize that fact. Thats why we offer you 24 months to adjust to the new Oral-B Triumph. With daily use, you will see how the Oral-B Triumph significantly reduces plaque. If you don't, send it back for a full refund.
That's our promise to you - if you are not happy with the results, then we aren't either. To help us provide you with your refund, please send us your Oral-B Triumph within 24 months of purchase along with your name and address filled in below and the original till reciept indicating the purchase price and date of purchase.
