Why? Its only going to end up in the back of some drawer?

Not necessarily , I wore mine for years after the breakup, it was a lovely ring :)

    Does THIS help..?
  • When my engagement ended (through no fault of mine), I offered it back and he told me to keep it. I later took it to a jewellers who offered me £120-£150 for a ring I know cost over £1,200 only weeks before (I didn't sell it). I was told there is no market for second hand rings and jewellers are only interested in 'big' diamonds....so it may not be worth all the stress you would be causing your ex by getting a solicitor involved....someone you once wanted to marry afterall....

    Just a thought.

  • If she knows you want the ring back , she will just sell it ASAP before any court date arises.
Court cases do nothing to help in a lot of cases.
    All the best anyway.....

That piece of legislation does not apply to NI or Scotland. I can't find an NI equivalent but one may exist.

If you broke up and it was not her fault I think you are very mean to even think about getting the ring back.

    I agree with the above.
  • If you gave a ring as a promise of marriage (engaged her) and broke the promise, then she could (in yester years) bring a suit for breach of promise of marriage.

I would cut and run... if she were to decide to fight it you could very quickly end up with a bigger bill than the ring would earn you back. This sort of thing is just a mess, avoid all hassle where possible.
    Always overestimating...

I doubt it will be worth all the hassle of getting back. My engagement ring cost £2.5k after my break up I went to sell, visiting 3 different places and the most they would offer was around £500. I tried again a few years later and nothing had changed.

Legally it's considered a gift and she isn't obligated to give it back.
