I tried it once, not nice. I regularly nibble a bit of raw bacon when I'm cooking something with it though, lovely.

And when I make cake I lick the bowl myself! It's cook's perks!

:T:T:TOoooooooooo...this brought back a lovely early 1970's forgotten memory of my dad in the kitchen cooking a sunday morning fry up while mum had a sunday bath and me sitting watching and waiting for him to give me a piece of raw sausage to snack on while breakfast was cooking....i can taste it now, yum yum.

But before anyone shoots me down....no, i wouldn't do this now, it just wouldn't be the same and no, i definately wouldn't give raw sauages to my children. LOL

Thanks for reminding me of this lovely memory!
  • Another one here....... I remember distinctly eating raw sausages, must have been late 60's early 70's. I will say though that I did have a penchant for plasticine around that time so my tastebuds could've been shot :) I loooooved black pudding to. I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years now so the thought of even cooked sausages makes me feel a bit icky........... bacon though??? Thats another matter entirely mmmmmm (I miss bacon) x

  • I completely forgot about eating raw sausage and bacon but my sister and I used to do it too in the mid 70's. How strange! Wouldn't do it now.

Eat free range, out door reared organic bacon, that way you know you've brought a pig into the world which has had an enjoyable life. Ok, it may have died early, but it's better than not being born right? ;)

Also, black pudding I think is already cooked in a way so it's not raw and can be eaten as it is... I think.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • In the 70's i can remember being sent to the shop for sausages and id always eat one on the way home :D i remember them being very pale and tasty but i didnt really like the tast of the skin they were in so id scrape the meat out with my teeth. Bluuuuugh.
My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

    I can spell...................I just cant type:confused:
  • when cooking, i love to nibble on a bit of raw sausage, bacon and mince meat.....never have too much of the sausage though, because Ive been always wary of the tapeworm theory!!

I too used to eat raw sausages in the 70s and my mum would tell me I'd get tapeworm (never did) but more than raw sausages I loved raw pastry and still do. There's an ad that used to be on TV of a bloke making a pie and many times it's prompted me to make pastry. The thing is, I only like it if it's rolled and got straight edges like when you trim the excess on a pie dish (I couldn't eat a big lump of it) so I have to cut it into strips before I can eat it!

It will if its made from "measly pork" thats pork that has the tapeworm cyst in it.
The cyst is actually the egg of the tapeworm and it lies waiting in the flesh to be ingested by a new host so it can complete its life cycle.
If you know what your'e looking for you can see the cysts.
You should never eat pork raw or even undercooked.
You can get tapeworm from fish and even more rarely beef.
Other worms such as roundworm have a different life cycle and the host is infected in a different way.
Being part of the food chain sometimes gives you more than you bargained for does'nt it :rotfl:.
