No they don't, the advertising is very missleading, yes the cartridges are relatively cheap but 5 inks in one cartridge is wastefull as you never use all the colours at the same rate, the printers are very poorly built and they suffer from printhead problems, my advise is to leave well alone.

For £100 I'd go either Canon MG5150 or 5250 if you need wireless.

That's what I just got and I paid over the odds for it (£100 for the 5150) when I could have gotten it for £60 but had so many probs setting it up was glad I paid the extra £40 (local print shop) for the customer service...

Only problem today with the 5150 was paper jam that just said no paper...discovered after trying to shove the paper tray it it was jammed....Pulled it off the shelf only for the top to come off. 5 mins later it was back on again...

So yeah for me it does feel flimsy but just shoots out mono... You can get 2 sets of cartridges for £20 or less off ebay which beats the HP at whsmith hands down (£16 per cartridge min and it only comes with a small amount of ink so you practically need to buy cartridges with it).. Mine is not wireless as I don't want that (too close to the neighbours. Wifi got hacked earlier this year. Cost me a small fortune!!! Put me well and truly off wireless) but can see how it would be good for a family or so...

the canon printers have a (easily) removable print head. I do lots of colour printing on glossy paper and over the years the most important aspects of my printers have been . . .
    1. Cleaning - I've found all printers clag up with all types of inks (branded and compatables alike). So all will need cleaning at some stage, and this can be very frustrating and expensive if done with the built-in "pump ink thro' the heads and hope" method. I like to be able to remove the inktanks and clean the printhead in extremely dilute bleach solution (3 drops to half pint pure tepid water). This does the job a treat for zero cost.
    2. Cheap Ink - I have drilled a hole in each each tank and plugged with rubber stoppers. I use a hypodermic to refill the tanks with bulk ink. All this kit you can get from Tesco or Asda, (approx £8).It works out at a tiny (yes tiny) cost per print. The canon ip3000 or similar, does not have a problem with this approach and the colour balance is great.

    hope this helps.

Even the rubber stoppers? And what is the bulk ink called? So have to get this :)

I also would recommend a Cannon printer. I got a cheap MP272, and it works fine. I have it out in Spain and it gets left from 3-4 months at a time, and works first time when I return. The Epsom didn't. The Scanning software is good and easy to use too. Maybe not good for the OP but as a general comment on printers. DG

We are a 'Local print shop' £100 does seem a little high, we sell them for £79 and the 5250 (Wireless) for just under £100, we also reset and refill the original cartridges and we will clean up printheads FOC for these and previous model Canon printers, I would say for longevity in their price range, Canon printers do seem to last well, time will tell if this is the case for the newer series printers.

Yeah but this is the town with 15,000 students locally right now (near enough) and AB15 has the second highest no of millionaire pads in the country..

Sure if I got it from slumdee it would have been substantially cheaper.

Plus shop rents locally are extortionate. Barnardos bookstore just down the road closed down the other year cos the rent was so high and they're a charity (but then they did sell their books and LP's for pennies )

Just need the chap who refilled it with cheap stuff from Asda/Tesco to tell me exactly what rubber bung he used and how he did it :D

Found that and contemplated it but like they were all out of stock in my area :( but good price still :)

Would have probably gotten over the canon if they'd had them in my area. My last Epson (some fossiled DX 4050 I think? White/cream top. Grey controls) was fine with card. Not a prob. Really cheap cartos from ebay too. I think about £10 worth used to last me a year....the ebay link (if ya local to these places) is http://www.ebay.co.uk/ctg/Epson-Stylus-DX4050-All-In-One-InkJet-Printer-/78024041?rt=nc&_catref=1&_dmpt=UK_CamerasPhoto_Printers_Printers_JN&_pcategid=171962&_pcatid=561&_pdpal=1&_refkw=epson+dx+4050+printer&_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A5251&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I just got the Just refill kit for about £7 from amazon for when my cartridges die...it has 150ml of ink with it which for the price is okay....

tesco wanted £6 each for black and colour with only about 90ml or less of ink in each though it's only £5 here...http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.207-8106.aspx

I can confirm that Epson printers come with starter cartridges: at least the one I bought my mother from Dyas the other day did. £20, including a £5 discount voucher, which for her purposes is a bargain!

    Brilliant Savvy Sue....

    Thanks for the info....

But are they good on card? I mean it seems a lot of folk on here need them to do card as well as plain paper....

the canon I got is fine on card apart from some colouring probs (since when has light be blue?) on my sticky toffee pudding I printed out today...

I thought it took forever to print photos on card till I checked it today and really wasn't that long...No longer than it takes to do 'other' card making things whilst you're waiting for it to print....
