Which Printer?

For the record, I'm not a fan of the Kodak printers either, but when you consider a Kodak colour cartridge can be bought for £9 online, even if you don't use all colours at the same rate, it still works out a lot cheaper than the likes of Epson (my preferred brand) which costs about £9 per colour.
Many of our customers who've been sucked in by the advertisng would dissagree with you over the running costs of Kodak machines.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
As it was selling for £59.99 both from Epson and Argos, I feel reluctant to pay the higher price for a discontinued printer.

The inks are more expensive at £8 per set or £7:50 a set for two sets

If your local Argos does not have the SX515W then you could look for a store which has it here

The running costs of any printer will vary from person to person. It all depends on what the person is printing. Kodak 10C gives a rough guide to 440, where individual colours for an epson may give anything between 270 to 400 pages. @interstellaflyer if you have customers who print nature photographs which has loads of sky, then the cyan will run out very quick, so yes kodak in that sense won't be very cost effective.
So £9.30 for kodak 10c. £27 for 4 inks for epson.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

Page counts stated on the pack are based on 5% coverage of an A4 sheet this is an industry standard and is fine as a guide for mono, standard quality text documents but completely meaningless for colour, however, put aside the ink, Kodak machines are expensive considering they are very cheaply built and they are prone to print head failure.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Printers with 6 inks or more will produce better photos IMO0 -

Yes I know they do, whereas tri colour cartridge is 15% (5% per colour). Never said they weren't built very good, but most budget range printers are not of a great quality.
Stands to reason that 6 colour will give a better image as the CMYK gamut range is small, so using the extra light cyan and light magenta uses a process to similar to hexachrome (6 colour). Does use a lot more ink thoughMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

I have only seen that with a supplier which no one on here rates anyway.
Epson say they supply all their printers for sale in Europe with ink, although they do not say if they are starter cartridges0 -
the canon printers have a (easily) removable print head. I do lots of colour printing on glossy paper and over the years the most important aspects of my printers have been . . .
1. Cleaning - I've found all printers clag up with all types of inks (branded and compatables alike). So all will need cleaning at some stage, and this can be very frustrating and expensive if done with the built-in "pump ink thro' the heads and hope" method. I like to be able to remove the inktanks and clean the printhead in extremely dilute bleach solution (3 drops to half pint pure tepid water). This does the job a treat for zero cost.
2. Cheap Ink - I have drilled a hole in each each tank and plugged with rubber stoppers. I use a hypodermic to refill the tanks with bulk ink. All this kit you can get from Tesco or Asda, (approx £8).It works out at a tiny (yes tiny) cost per print. The canon ip3000 or similar, does not have a problem with this approach and the colour balance is great.
hope this helps.0 -
I'm a massive fan of Canons iP printers, I previously had an iP4200 at home and work, and have a new(ish) iP4600 at work.
Fantastic quality prints providing you use decent photo paper, and they seem to last a good length of time0
