MSE News: Sainsbury's to launch 'Brand Match' scheme. Is it any good?

I was thinking of buying some clothing - the new Gok stuff plus a few bits of branded shopping. The branded stuff wont come to £20 on its own.

So I was wondering if it had to be over £20 any sort of shopping or it has to be £20 of branded item (plus whatever the clothing comes to) to get a price match

It can be £20 worth of shopping and if there's a branded product in that shop, whether its one branded product or £20 worth, you will get a brand match thing back. <<Hope that's clear


How to play the system.
The best thing to do is buy £20 worth of branded products which you know is cheaper in asda. Then use your £10 voucher straight away in your next shop (in your case clothes).

Excelllent idea. I've been going through my MOCs and till spits tonight and starting to cobble together a list. And then someone gave me 600 points wys £30 so at least my points total will get a bit better :T
By doing my bits of shopping in Sainsburys I avoid the stress of having to go to the next town which has a very tiny Tesco with very nasty staff and a very busy Asda where you have to pay to park.

Its a case of figuring out which are Asdas mega best offers, things that are half the price of Sainsburys and things I have a MOC for as well

With the Sainsbury's Brand Match, it's not made very clear that if you buy brand goods on offer at a lower price in Sainsbury's, the savings which are made will be taken off the potential savings on items marked as Brand Match. Last Saturday I bought 2 tubs of Haagen-Dazs ice cream at £4.30 each, knowing that it was only £2 in Asda, and therefore expected to be refunded £4.30 - but at the check out received a token for only £1.48. The customer section referred me to a leaflet with the terms and conditions where it explains that the calculation is off the whole basket, not individual items - something that is not clear on the large adverts outside the store. The obvious answer is not to mix Sainsbury's own special offers in the same basket as the Brand Match - or alternatively, go to Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco for their own special offers

...and the brand match basket must be £20 or over, and the voucher has a cap on it of £10. Price mis-match it is really.

Same with the Tesco price match - its the TOTAL price of the basket compared with the TOTAL Asda price so the more expensive items will balace out the cheaper ones. Also if Tesco declares something NA you dont get that item price matched :mad:

What I cant figure out with Sainsburys price match is how they actually compare your basket.
Say Asda is £xxx cheaper than Sainsburys. They then compare your basket with Tesco and its also £yyy cheaper. So Sainsburys is cheaper than both so do they add both the Asda and Tesoc totals up and divide by 2 so thats what you get back as your Sainsburys price match?

The prices that Sainsburys compares with Tesco and Asda is at midnight. Take something that is £3 at all of them. Mr T decides to reduce this to £2 at 2am. Even though its cheaper for customers to buy it at Mr T, you will not be given back £1 coupon back if the other items you buy are Sainsburys own stuff.

On Wednesday, I bought the George Harrison docu-film DVD and £10-11 of other stuff. I did get a coupon saying I saved £2.16. I reckon £1.26 of this was due to the fact some Birds Eye chicken grills were 42p in the discontinued. As Tesco and Asda wouldn't have these at 42p - more like £1.68.
