58p spend - 2 x bananas and a brown roll to have with my soup.

Am spending the afternoon sitting on my bum at work, doing very little, trying to chose a new bank account for my OH (who currently earns very very little, but who has no real debt except a 0% cc). If anyone can recommend anywhere (other than A&L, which I know are brilliant but there's no branch near us) that'd be appreciated. OH will earn lots and set up a business account in due course.

Spent 2.26 on some milk, sugar and bread. We're still putting off the big grocery shop, but underestimated how much of the basics we use :(

I have a friend in a similar position, he's just opened up an A & L account for the interim and used my recommendation. He seems quite pleased, plus they have a 12% savings account offer available until 7th Feb. You do have to pay in £500 a month, but it doesn't have to stay in there. So he'll use his wife's money to transfer in and out.

    Hey bobba :)

I am happy to recommend First Direct - excellent customer care and very good overall service. I know a lot of peeps were turned off by the recent charges but I am still impressed by them.

OH is with Lloyds TSB and he is also happy with the service he has had.

What ever you do, Quidco! ;)

    Hi everyone

Just been very brave and been to Asda (spent £55.53) I was very good and didn't buy any cakes or puddings and i stayed clear of the clothes so I wouldn't be tempted.:j :j

We've recently gone back to one car (OH's car engine blew up and it was too expensive to mend and we can't really afford a new one at the moment) so I stocked up on sauces, tins, pasta etc so that if I haven't got access to the car (or I'm skint) I will be able to miss the odd weekly shop.

My new year resolution was to keep a seperate housekeeping purse and use cash and so far its working really well.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I hope everyone has a really good day:beer:

Thank you Moozie and Bobble! I'm with First Direct (who've been nothing but kind to me) but they require 1000 a month input and my OH doesn't have that yet... am thinking A&L may be sensible, especially as their savings are fantastic. He's really unhappy with Nationwide (who cancelled his OD of £1000 - as he didn't have enough going in, and wouldn't let him swop to a student account as his course was part vocational) - he cleared the full OD so we're contemplating going after the £300 of charges they added last year. You're both fab (and Quidco all the way!) xx
