Cheap Butter?

Isn't there still a lot of debate as to whether this is true?
I bought some of the stuff you suggested & couldn't bring myself to eat it, the smell was so artificial.
Butter is a natural product.[/QUOTE]
Oh no it's not.
It is a manufactured food, have you ever seen a dairy? And just like other manufacturer foods ie lasagne the manufacturer adds things to it.
Honey is natural, milk is natural but both are processed and liable to have additives added to them.
If you want a natural product these days you have to grow or rear it, prepare it and cook it yourself. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
'Farmfoods' do a 454g block pure Irish creamery butter for £2, but if you buy 3 blocks you get 3 For £5. The brand name is 'Champion'. Good price.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

That would be subjective tho. I for example think that Lurpak tastes vile. To me it tastes like candle wax smells, if that makes sense. Each to their own.
I love President salted, which I can only get in Waitrose so I wait til its on offer and stock up. It's usually around £1.54 tho :eek:You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

I'm not going to enter into the debate about butter v marg/spreads and their health benefits/pitfalls. I just don't like spreads(but I'll put up with them if I mask with loads of HM jam
) I just love butter!
I only ever now buy butter when it's on offer. This usually involves buying large amounts and freezingas my price target is £1 max for 250g. My favourite is Lurpak, but I will "tolerate"
Country Life or Aldi's Danish style butter. I've also found the Wykes Farm butter to be quite palatable. I don't mind Lurpak spreadable if it's the only thing on offer (although I really couldn't stand the Kerrygold spreadable).
I've tried pretty much all of the "value" butters and tbh wish I hadn't bothered. (IMO both Tesco Everyday and Asda SP taste "cheesy").
So, I think I can say I've "tested" most and agree that taste can be quite subjective. This is why I've gone into detail of my likes/dislikes so you can get a clearer idea! I found the Champion butter (slightly salted) to be more like a Country Life type of butter. So whilst it's quite good (perfectly edible and palatable), I'll still keep my eyes open for Lurpak on special offerApologies for the long post! HTH

I grow my own fruit 'n veg mainly organically (except for Dithane 945 to protect my spuds and toms against blight).
I also keep hens and ducks, which are fed with non-GM layer pellets and my kitchen leftovers. Unfortuanately a fox also liked my organic ducks and killed 13 of my 14 flock. Thanks to a fox trap, this particular fox is no longer a threat to my or other people's poultry!!!!!!!!!!!!:j The hens/bantams were not attacked.
I buy my butter and cider from a local cider farm and have just been introduced to a local butcher who did an excellent job of butchering a fresh roadkill deer I found at the side of road. The venison roast and sausages are fantastic - supermarkets cannot compare!
At my age, 70, I now prefer taste above quantity. Especially as I cannot eat much.0 -
I tasted this recently and I love the taste - very rich and creamy. Think it was £2.20 for 500 grams.Nice to save.0

I grew up in Manor Park, E12. I am still an eastender, but have adjusted to my country ancestors' ways.
I paid a licenced pest operative to destroy and remove the fox - only because I do not have a rifle.
Now my poultry is safe and I have a good supply of free-range organic eggs.:beer:0
