From Experian's FAQ:
As shown above, Citibank are not doing a full credit check, just an enquiry to verify your details. This should explain why individuals who were rejected by other banks are getting accepted by Citibank, because they're not doing a full credit check.
I think Citibank must be doing a full credit check, as otherwise how are they deciding who gets the 2 in 1 control card and who gets the 3 in 1 card? I think someone mentioned earlier that citibank check applications on an individual basis, so they dont have a 'computer says no' policy.

Citi are a yank bank. Pretty big in investment banking too, though probably more famous for their silly intern Lucy Gao (...that email forward that did the rounds a few months back).
I like the fact they're a lot less mainstream than others...ie nearly empty at peak/lunch-times, but still servicable via Lloyds if there's one closer.0 -

Yes they are, an enquiry is exactly that, an enquiry into your credit file. This is what you will see when other lenders access your file. CitiBank will have full access to your credit file and are basing their decisions on that and their own criteria.
For whatever reasons (we could speculate) their 'own' criteria is obviously highly flexible when it comes to individuals with adverse credit and so it should be in my opinion. Aslong as credit is not involved.0 -
ooh, I also got the 3 in 1 card and a cheque book, but I suppose if you can only spend the money if you put it in there, then there's no risk really,I did'nt want an overdraft, my mother always told me to save your money up then you've no need to get it off other people who charge you loads when you want to pay it back, and you'll enjoy spending it cos you know it has'nt cost you any more to spend it. I have learnt the hard way that this is true.

but computerwoman, Citi bank offer you an interest free OD, so why not take it and use it if need be!
I looked on their website and I can't believe they offer a £500 interest free OD on all accounts and have an offer of a £1000 interest free OD for first 12 months then reverting to £500. It's really making me decide to switch banks. I rarely use my OD, but at 0% I wont mind dipping a 100 or two into it now and then and it would help pay of CC bills!0 -
because I don't need to use an OD and if I did I know I couldnt afford to pay it back within the time scale, I firmly believe that if you want something so bad, then save up for it and pay for it with your own money, it might take longer for you to get to your goal but worth it when you do,
