Slightly OT - The Quidity prepay card isn't Chip and pin so I wonder how long until it can only be used online?

That won't have anything to do with it. :)

I wonder what the official line actually is of why CitiBank Debit Cards cannot be swiped?

    Security?

Probably the same as all cards, I don't know of any c&p cards that can be swiped now, or maybe that's just at work, they always decline.

  • its going to be a headache remembering all the pins, so let me get this right, chip and pin means that when you go into a shop they ask you for your pin, and thats that but some shops don't so they have to be swiped, is this right so far, I thought all shops had to ask for your pin now.

From February all shops are meant to be c&p only, none are supposed to be swiped. Even the chip & signature cards go in the chip reader. As far as I know, if the company let customers swipe their card, they're responsible for any fraud. Most banks just decline the card if swiped, but then all the shops i've been in normally have the chip terminals so mine isn't swiped. Not sure why the other cards can be swiped? Do they have chips yeah? lol i'm sure they do but it's suprising how many people think the hologram is the chip! Any card without a chip, such as Asda's storecard, still swipe
