he was alowed to take it out so he had 20.00 in there
but he forgot (not the bank) that he had made a debit card payment earlier for the £20 its ardly the banks fault come on.

but the bank allowed him to take it out

with my bank if i use my card that moneys put on hold and my available bank balance is ajusted accordingly so it partly his fault an partly the banks fault

Nobodies saying it's the banks fault. It's clear op mismanaged his finances.

Aside the issue of who is/isn't at fault for a moment....

.......nobodies saying the bank shouldn't charge for the service provided. Its about the level of charges. Fees of 4.5x the debt amount in just one month is excessive/extortionate.

    Hi guys

I was hoping someone had some advice, I went £20 overdrawn on my account a bit back (account said available balance £21 so i took £20 out but next day it said I was £19 overdrawn (available balance should have been £1 but a visa transaction had not been taken out apparently.
anyway On friday the bank took £90 odd in charges and my esa goes in today of £180 leaving me with just £90 after the charges have swallowed up half of it, I went to the bank today to try and sort it but they would not budge then tried to get my esa payment stopped/reveresed and paid a cheque instead but it was to late
so now after bills etc I am left with next to nothing for food etc for the next 2 weeks, is there anything I can do? is the bank allowed to leave me with nothing after their scandelous rip off charges, its enough of a struggle as it is without this :(

This 'discussion' seems a bit silly, if you don't mind my saying so :)

I suspect that the £90 charges are not to with the OP being £20 overdrawn but with charges either accruing or being overdrawn more than once. OP hasn't been back so guess we will never know. He says he was overdrawn a bit back.

Now stop squabbling and answer some more questions!:)

People can be so patronising on here sometimes.

This is an incorrect assertion that has been perpetuated here on MSE for ages. Money paid into a bank account is simply income. Do you honestly think that someone checks every incoming payment? Benefits are just income, like wages.

There really is some self righteous tools on here isn't there, Thought it wasn't like this on here until recently

Yes I screwed up I should know every single penny I have in and out seeing its such a piffle amount I am living off (feel free to have a pop at me for being a benefit scrounger etc who goes on 4 holidays a year and has a plasma screen tv etc) Trust me I aint got nothing, only reason I have a roof over my head is because I am lucky enough to have great parents ..and at 32 years old thats not a position I imagined being in.

Anyway the way i see it is this, My bank is a basic account (all i can have since my business went bankrupt a few years ago) usually if I make a payment etc it works like this (account balance say £100) make a £25 payment even if the transaction had not been taken out straight away if i went to the cash point it would say balance £100 available balance £75
The transaction spoken of earlier had been made at least 3/4 working days before so when I went to check (hoping I had some cash left so I could get some food in) it said available balance £21 so I presumed I had £21 left
I think they do it on purpose to be honest and how any one can say £90 charges on £19 overdrawn for a few days is anything other than daylight robbery I don't know.
I know the poor old banks need the money and they are destitute and struggling to feed their family (caviar/champagne)

I'll go away anyway like a naughty boy and eat sod all for 2 weeks its my fault the bank are above any blame I borrowed from them without asking apparently, get over yourselves you smug !!!!!!.

Bigdebtboy, I don't always post on here because of some folk. People can have their opinions, but they dont need to sound so patronising do they?
I've been abused on here before and came off it for a while.
I don't see why they can't answer your question without the nastiness thrown in. Maybe they are bank managers afterall.

What do you mean apparently you did. Most banks will give you a free £50 OD if you ask, but you didnt you just took. Now you should pay it back with fees which we all know are a rip of but thats what happens if you take without asking (stealing) what makes you think you can take someone elses money.
