Hello Bonnington, yes I have been a little quiet, Mr B's job is not going well again. Money is poor and he is very unhappy.:( He doesn't seem to be getting anywhere with finding another job either. It almost seems like the new manager is trying to get him out by making life unbearable for him (I'm sure there are laws against that). Trying not to panic about what will happen to us if the worst happens, the job market certainly isn't what it used to be.

Well I've been on a little bit of a road trip today, and it seems there are business starting to try employing people again. OK, it was mostly hospitality - but it's a start

On the plus side, my bonus has made a big dent in the overdraft

    So Good Things:D
    • Overdraft reduced
    • Horrible old bike sold (for £30!)
    • Only spent £17 on treat for getting £1200 bonus, all rest has been spent on debts and sensible things
    Bad Things:(
    • Mr B's job and my rising panic

Do an SOA for the worst case scenario. It may be that you will have to make token payments for the period of Mr. B's unemployment. That can't be helped - you can't pay what you don't have.

Sorry to hear Mr Banwa is unhappy at work, I hope things improve. I really hate it when people (bosses) treat staff like carp. If there's an issue they should deal with it and not just use bully tactics . Sorry, bit of a rant, but I see so much of it and it really makes me mad :(.

I've just re-read my post, and can see it's not saying what I meant :o. I wasn't implying there was any issue with Mr Banwa, I was thinking more 'big picture'.

Something I frequently see is managers who haven't got the guts to keep staff informed when there's a likelihood that their contract could be terminated (redundancy). So, instead of giving the individual a decent amount of notice, they have it landed on them at the last moment. Whilst news like this is likely to be unwelcome, surely it's better to know sooner than later? The managers though squirm out of bad news issues and instead hope the individual will just leave. So I agree with you ZTD, it is the inadequacy of the manager.

Banwa - I'm not thinking MrB is about to be made redundant, it was just an example :o. Positive vibes to you and MrB :o

Do you think? I sincerely hope so, for everyone's sake. Thankfully, although the industry in my home town is virtually dead, tourism is thriving, so even if they aren't well paid, there will always be jobs of some description. I have done an SOA on with Mr B on a reduced income because I [STRIKE]hope [/STRIKE]think he wouldn't be without work completely for very long. If he were to come out £1000 a month, we could still slightly overpay. I might post it later to see what you all think. Apart from sky (which is ridiculous at £50 per month), I can't see where we could cut back.

I agree. I am blessed to work in a company where this doesn't happen, and if it did, it would not be tolerated.

I knew exactly what you meant, don't worry:). But either way could be right. Either a) they are worried about the viability of the company and are trying to get people to leave because that is cheaper than redundancy. b) they want the old staff out and to bring in the new more 'pliable' drivers in (in other words the ones that will break the rules, which Mr B won't do) or c) we're just being paranoid and there is nothing wrong. I strongly suspect it is because he sticks to the rules, and I wholeheartedly support him in that.

I have been calling round looking for 'leads' today and have got a one for him, so am feeling a bit more positive.

If something is impossible - it isn't going to happen. That's just the way of the universe I'm afraid.

Just keep creditors informed when stuff happens rather than bury your head. "You're getting a quid because Mr. B is unemployed - more news next week" is far better than nothing accompianied by the sound of silence.

    Hello everyone,

I am still around but avoiding posting for the time being, mainly because The Worst Has Happened. Mr B is out of work. His bosses were being so unreasonable that he pretty much felt he had no alternative.

I have to say that I thought I would be much more worried than I am, but in actual fact, I feel quite relieved. The uncertainty was really getting me down.

He has registered with a few agencies, has had half a driving assessment for some agency work, and he reapplied to the big green lorry people (he did a short stint for them a couple of years ago) and has a driving assessment and interview with them on Thursday and seems reasonably confident that they will ask him to come back (they called him very soon after they got his application) so all in all, I'm feeling remarkably relaxed.

He's also toying with the idea of claiming for constructive dismissal, although the idea of just putting the whole sorry affair behind him might be more appealing. I don't think they should be allowed to get away with it though.

So we may have to watch what we spend over the next few weeks while we adjust to the pay frequency etc. That said we have been very frugal of late, no unnecesary spends.

    Hope everyone else is ok:)
