I really don't think 'Stardrops' is all that.

I got some at a local store (B&M, about £1, fact fans! ;)) and I've found it to be a bit poor, it doesn't compare to Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner or Flash. I don't get it.

I have this vision of martyrs scrubbing away with substandard products in the name of 'Old Style' :D

I didn't 'get' Stardrops the first time I used it about 10 years ago (when it was still in the glass bottle). I think I used too much and I couldn't cope with the bubbles!

I tried it again 3-4 years ago after reading about it on here and I'm a convert.

Stardrops can clean nearly anything - hard surfaces e.g. tiles, sanitary ware, work surfaces etc, soft fabrics e.g. carpets, curtains, laundry e.g. as stain remover or hand wash etc. That 's why we like it. 1 cheap product instead of myriad expensive ones.

What's also good is that you don't have to wipe/rinse after use.

It's very cheap. A standard bottle can last for months because it's so concentrated.

Mr Muscle type products are often very strong and can remove stubborn dirt with little effort. For regular daily/weekly cleaning type jobs these products are OTT. Just one of the products costs more and you'll need to buy several different versions. It's neither economical or environmentally friendly. Granted, Stardrops is outperformed by specialist products on stubborn dirt but most OS board readers clean regularly and don't have much stubborn dirt around their homes. Most Mr Muscle/Flash products require wiping after use to avoid visible residues being left behind.

Stardrops cousin Starclen can deal with stubborn dirt easily, if required but it's more limited in use because it's got ammonia in it.

FYI neither do I, thanks, but have just moved into a filthy, disgusting, dump, (will be gorgeous when we've finished it tho :) ) the previous owner had a filthy dog, filthy kids, smoked like a chimney and clearly didn't own even a broom let alone any cleaning products.

Its just so rotten, :( dog hair encrusted into cruddy filthy corners, destroyed parquet flooring, muddy paw marks on the doors both dog and brat paw marks, painted shut windows, filthy horrible bathrooms etc.. Its a really nice area too, you would never think it would be a dirty hole inside. like a Kim and Aggie style job.
But I guess that's why we got such a bargain. Nobody could see past the years of crud :D

So anyway back on topic, no, I don't do dirt and filth either. If that's what you were implying.
Its so cliquey here its unbelievable!

I got hold of some of this miracle stuff as part of my new OS lifestyle ;)! I have diluted it 1 part SD, 1 part white vinegar and 20 parts water in a spray bottle - does this sound right to you? Is this OK to use all around the house or will I need it more 'heavy duty' for some parts?

Sorry to ask daft questions but I'm just learning

  • Hi Mum of 2

Sounds as if it might be a bit weak to me but hey ho I never measure anything, personally, I reckon on about 25% SD to 75% water. I see also that you are adding white vinegar I assume as an anti-bacterial, I do this to but also add some Zoflora (the concentraced disinfectant) to make it smell nice. I used SD neat on more stubborn stains but do be careful, especially on metal stuff, don't leave it on too long.

    Happy cleaning.
    Regards

I've just bought some stardrops for the first time. I'll be interested to see if they make any difference. I don't waste much time cleaning regularly, I prefer to do much more interesting things.

Well, had a quick flick of a sponge round the kitchen and it does seem very good :) I got the one with ammonia and it even cleaned the fly poo off the window frames! :rotfl:

I've got the antibacterial floor cleaner to try later - I usually shudder at anything labelled antibacterial but it's the floor and we have a dog so I'll concede on this occasion only.
  • I've just had a look at foodbargins .co.uk and they have the 750ml stardrops (different types) for £1.00

I use 1/3rd SD, water and white vinegar. Yes, I know that you aren't supposed to mix cleaners, but this doesn't give off chlorine gas and turn your kitchen into the Western Front, or eat it's way out of the bottle or even evolve into a new lifeform. It also goes a long, long way. My main worktop is 1 metre by the usual 600mm, and one "spray" is enough. It does smell a bit of vinegar at first, but that dissapates within minutes.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
