If you are a t-mobile customer, manually going onto the orange network for 3G/HSDPA, could be a way around t-mobile's speed caps. I understand that Orange don't have the same capping procedures so might not be able to implement T-mobiles arbitary 0.35/1/2Mbps caps.

Once they switch on 3G roaming, scan for networks in your phone and select T-Mobile Orange.

3G is 0.35Mbps. What most people mean by 3G is actually 3.5G (HSDPA) speeds can reach over 14Mbps

Orange has the slowest 3g of all the networks. Its absolutely terrible. Maybe it will speed up a bit when they are able to offload customers to the Tmobile infrastructure.

It is indeed slow. As well as offloading customers to T-Mobile, they need to offload customers to BT Openzone. Central London is saturated with BT Openzone premium hotspots, but Orange iPhones don't automatically switch over to them because of a long-term fault, which is causing unnecessary additional network congestion in London.

I can't pick up tmobile at work so it switches to a very good orange signal for calls and texts. Internet is painfully slow so hopefully I will benefit from this change.

Had a nice surprise when I got to work this morning. I can now pick up orange 3g on my tmobile phone. Speeds of 1MB compared to the usual 40kbps !!:T

How can you check the speeds on an Android phone?
  • T-Mobile speed cap? It didn't say that in the contract.
