    Absolutely.

The key difference is that the average basic account holder will be far more unlikely to hold the mortgage/savings account/credit card/loan etc that makes the genuine profit.

That was the point I was trying to make, the bba account is probably all they have with that particular organisation. What would people prefer, that they start charging for processing DD's etc. A matter of time before free banking disappears in this country

If you have a basic account with no cheque book, why bother with the banks.

    THE ANSWER
Get a prepaid Mastercard, you can have your wages paid in and you can pay money into your account by using Paypoint
    http://www.paypoint.co.uk/locator.aspx

You can either pay cash and get a receipt then enter the receipt number online or just swipe your card through a paypoint machine, either way the money goes on your account immediately.

As its a Mastercard you can use it in any ATM Worldwide

Its not a credit card, you can only spend what is on your account.
The best on the market is the Virgin Prepaid Mastercard, no credit checks, just prove you are a voter
    http://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/splash/prepaid-cards.jsp

The card costs £9.99, you get in 5-7- days and you can decide how you are charged.

Basically, stuff stupid banks like RBS and LLOYDS who deserve every lost customer, idiots:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Paypoint costs 2.75% to top up. Money up in smoke.

£4.75pm fee or you get charged 2.95% for card transaction.

Either way you get charged for making cash withdrawals, £1.50 or 2.95%.

Can see very few redeeming features to be honest.

That's just silly. Why would anyone do that? They charge for everything. Basic accounts are free to open, and free to use, and if you'd bothered to read posts 27 and 28, you'd see the answer to the problem there
Debt free and staying that way!

As a taxpayer, didn't I, and the millions of other taxpayers, actually BUY shares in these banks that OUR govt bailed out when they borrowed money from US?

No you didn't buy shares, the government bought shares. Whether you like it or not, your money ceases to be your money when you pay it to the government.

Can you withdraw cash over the counter in a branch of RBS or lloyds with a BBA? If so, if all the holders of these accounts made a point of doing that rather than using the ATM at each (when branches are open), it would probably cost the banks more than the 30p LINK charge them.

Yes it probably would. Then again it would also be a hassle for the majority of people and as such would never happen.

Idiots? I'd say choosing to close a completely free bank account, pay to set up a quasi-bank account and pay for virtually every bit of account usage is the "idiotic" thing. Do you honestly think the people running the pre-paid card cares any more about customers than banks?
  • Just come from appointment with Bank manager at Natwest in my town. She said new decision is being made on the 23rd october about this. Having pressure put on them according to her.

I'm sure if they back down on the ATM side of things they'll add some sort of other nasty elsewhere!
  • Well if they do that then at least make it affect all customers. Then everyone's in the same boat. Simple. We, will then see how the ones sniping on here deal with it...

They aren't backing down. No change in policy at all and no plan to.
