stupid work gets in the way of all my fun

    Soo true!

Am enjoying my placement lots, but missing all the chat on here! No internet during the day is a real culture shock!

I'm overdue for a phone upgrade, so I'm thinking about going with an iphone, so I can actually use my time on the train (snoozing and looking out of the window probably doesn't count, but sunrise is pretty!). Normally I would get home at 6ish and be on the computer for an hour or so, so I'd still be 'free' at the same time. But really an ipad would be more useful... But this isn't the time - and most certainly not the place - for that!

BIG hello to everyone, you're doing so well with October challenges - I meant to put some up, how is it the 19th already?!

Ah Wendz, Poppy is super cute - what a smile!

Dinah, I couldn't possibly see any cuts to your SOA and all your rationalisations (if that's what I mean) do make sense. It's pretty tough though! Well done on cutting your grocery bill so much :D Ours is still hovering round £50 a week. Especially now the cat's been put on an obesity management plan :( I feel terrible. Bad mummy. But I really do think he's just big boned!!

Will try not to be a stranger! Loving all the chat, especially Christmas talk - is that legal now? Hurrah!

ps. I felt exactly the same about Biutiful. Moving, hard hitting, Javier Bardem - what more could you want?

pps. I love Kirstie too :p

Hi GreenSaints, I'm sure your OH will get there eventually. I know that I don't like to say too much about what I owe to OH because I don't want him to be disappointed in me. :o

It would be nice for him to just tell me though. I get annoyed when I don't know. But like I said, I can't force him, so I have to focus on me instead!

I hope that tomorrow I'll clear 80% of my CC debts, thanks to cashing in my ISA. Not the ideal solution, but I've been turned down for other CCs with 0%. I lost £42 interest, a balance transfer fee would have cost at least £100.

I'm also doing a spending diary. Basically I have an app on my phone which I put my starting balance and add every time I spend something, with the amount and what it is. I've only been doing it since 15th, but it's making me aware of what I spend (or waste) my money on! I hope to not give Santander overdraft charges this month either!

I spent the last two days with my mum and asked her how much I owe her and how much we collectively owe her. Needless to say, I'm not counting that in my debt total!

oooh thats a good £25! will that go towards christmas or something?

Sorry if I asked too many questions or was too nosy! I understand your justifications and it sounds like you have it under control. I agree though, no more holidays! If you dont have any before your DFD then probably by then you'll have loads of Clubcard vouchers anyway which you can put towards flights or something - just let them rack up while you don't think about it!

I saw that boots thing but I thought it sounded a bit complex and I've got so much on at the moment I didn't fancy it :(

I can't believe Poppy is 6 months already! That's mad! I really want to see pics of Noah and hear from Flower too I hope they are both ok!

Birdie I am very impressed at you and OH's plan and that sounds good about the higher pay cheque! I think that if you work as a team and both know what's going on with the other it's easier to not be persuaded to splurge and go out etc (like he'll be more understanding if you just want to stay in and watch a film rather than go out etc) OH and I are trying to set up a savings thing together so that we can save while he is working for times when he isnt but we haven't finished our spreadsheet yet! When you work on spreadsheets and computers all day at work the last thing you want to do is carry on at home!!

I'll be interested to see what the government puts out about people downsizing.. I don't know young families which can afford a 3/4 bedroom house because as Dinah said her and NIM aren't a young family and theyre struggling in their house so I cant think someone with kids would be able to do it! This kind of thing makes me worry a bit about the future but it kind of makes me want to work harder to try and secure myself a good career and a good future.. it's hard though when the goalposts keep being moved!!

Anways, I think this will be one of my longest ever posts! Cinny, can we have hair pics? Also, I tried to find that video on your blog but I couldn't! I wanted to see if you have a yorkshirery/Nottingham accent!!

GreenSaints - looking in your sig it looks like your CC debts are really coming down! don't be disheartened!! Also though yey to clearing most of it ! Not ideal to blow your savings but theres no point having savings when you're in debt!

Also I forgot to say D, I'll relax about your driving licence renewal - you need a good picture! On mine I look like a creepy stalker!!

Here you go, Tink! And if anyone's interested in seeing my OH.

I haven't taken any hair photos, want to wash all the gunk she puts on out first and style it myself! Only have an hour and a half of working out this morning so I'll post them laterer.

I think it's a good idea using your savings, Greenie! (Sorry, but that's what I'm calling you :D) It'll help in the long run, and you can always work them back up when all the debt's gone.

Good going on the vouchers though :T I like getting freebies from complaining/praising :o Have a pack of bakers soft bits and treat sticks downstairs that they sent me for Charlie - sent them an email saying they need to put more in because our dogs just sniff them out, make a mess with their nose in the bowls and leave the rest. And Charlie's too old and slow to get his own now so I have to pick them out! Thankyavairmuch!
  • Greenie? I sound like a bogey! :p

I can't pay my cards off today as my cheque from my ISA STILL hasn't cleared! It's been 3 days! I'm so annoyed!

Anyway, nothing I can do about it. Going to carry on with doing my chest of drawers. Bought them from a second hand shop for £15 and am stripping all the paint and repainting it to match my bedside cabinets (which I did the same thing too) Really enjoying it, but it's taking ffffoooooorrrrrreeeevvvvveeeerrr! :p

    Hehe I love it! :)

Sorry Greenie... but it's starting to stick... ;) Do you fancy coming round to mine and prettifying my furniture?! I tried and failed miserably so we've been living with an eyesore for the last 2 and a half years! :o Oh and I think that paying off your debt with savings is a good idea, hope the money clears soon! :)

Payday today! Woo and a big fat hoo! Skipping into town at lunch time to buy Just Dance 3 so that's my evening sorted! :D So annoying how it's about £10 more to buy it for the Kinect though, so not fair!

Well done on the vouchers for complaining Dinah! I really need to get back into my moaning minnie ways and send off some complaints, might get some goodies in time for Christmas! :p

Poddle, how about a cheap tablet for the train? Like this one, £70! Not as fancy as an ipad, but will keep you occupied for the time being. :)

I can't make my mind up about Kirstie, I love her programmes for the lovely craftiness/bakiness of it all, but she does grate a little... an hour of her a week is just about right! Looking forward to next week's show because I heard the word 'Papercrafts'! :)

'Tis very brrrr scorchio this morning....

I think thats wise using the ISA to pay off the debts GreenSaint. Are you planning to try to pay back your mum next?

As regards the young family thing Tink, I ran some sums a few weeks ago after Wendz was discussing returning to work. If we had 1 child we and I didn't work we'd get around £380 a month in tax credits, if I worked 3 days a week I'd be bringing in £621 a month after petrol and childcare, and if I worked full time I'd make £764 a month after petrol and childcare. To be honest I can't see how it benefits parents to work full time on low or middle incomes.

Yep the £25 is put aside for Christmas presents, although we're only doing one pressie each this year as everyone is skint. Already got my grandad sorted (£15 vintage BBC comedy box set on The Book People), want to get my brother a george foreman, I'm making my mums pressie, and I want to get dads on Etsy, going to have to work out what I can get my friends, I think my issue is I hate high street shopping, the crowds, the cold, the searching for things that don't seem to exist, I love doing all the shopping from the comfort of my sofa. I think B&Q and Iceland take the vouchers though, so might just keep them for there.

My night off tonight as its glass class. I'll try to get a few bits done after I get back but that isn't until 9ish. I do have two mystery shops to do during the day though and the associated reports, and a report that has to be done when I get home from a phone call I did yesterday (had to wait for them to upload an audio file).

NIM was a cracker last night, focussed on DFness and clean-houseness, I felt really lucky.

  • That made me laugh about NIM and the Oven Pride - he's well-trained ha! But will probably hate me saying that :o

Nice to see you Poddle, miss you! I love my iphone I have to say, it means I can catch up on my internetz during otherwise 'dead' time (doc's waiting room etc) seeing as I can't do much of it in work anymore (again ->) Can read the thread but can't reply though - anyone know how?

I don't believe Jasper is obese! He's a boy, they're supposed to be sturdy! My Sally is a right fatty but I just don't know how I could manage her diet alongside Mavis. M is a skinny minnie and yet they eat the same thing and have the same lifestyle so I don't get it?

Greenie (:D) that'll be hard to do, using your ISA like that but you'll feel brilliant after when you're able to update your sig :)

Tink, are you pregnant or did I imagine that? Can't keep up with all the fecundity on this thread! My friend had a baby girl last night, Heidi, am still crocheting like a demon on her blanket but won't see her for a couple of weeks so it's all good.

Eek to all the Xmas pressie talk! I need to start making lists!
