They've cancelled Venice. Mum isn't comfortable about going away and leaving granddad in my brother's hands given how quickly he seems to be going downhill. They can rearrange the flights with Jet2 if they choose to, I'm just waiting for her to give me the dates she'd like them moved to, should be between £30 and £80 depending on the dates.

Bp is down again today :D:D:D

I did think about doing it together, as I worked out if we had 3 children each under 5 during the day, and then the additional 3 aged over 5 for say 2 hours after school that's an income of £36,000 each, which is a bit more than I earn now, but about £15,000 more than I'll be getting when I return part time. But I'm also considering that we want a second one, and I wouldn't get any pay at all if I was signed onto bedrest again like I was this pregnancy, and it would be awful to let all those families down, so this probably isn't a good time for me to childmind until I've finished having children.

Don't blame you for not wanting to go back into hospital Dinah , hope things improve so you don't end up in there again.

Sorry to hear about your Grandad. Is awful your parents can' get any help either.

Bless your mum for wanting to become a childminder so she can look after your baby. I think its lovely when Grandparents can look after the grandchildren.

Glad you had a nice mothers day. Really sweet of NIM to get you something. I got a card made at nursery and some chocolate. My Mum got me some flowers too bless her as she felt sorry for me after my awful nights with Poppy. Very sweet considering she was up for ages with me trying to help too!

Cinny - loving the pics sooo cute! Sounds like he is definately a genius!

Had Poppys check this morning and she is doing everything she should be doing etc. She is still a tiny little thing though.

Was meant to be going to work this afternoon but feel all ahy and my throats killing so not going in now. They said they would rather not catch it anyway! Feel guilty as i have only been off a week and only had about one or two days off ill the whole time i have been there.

Awww bless little Poppy, as long as she's perfectly healthy then there's nothing wrong with her being pocket sized! :) She might have a growth spurt soon and you'll be wondering what happened to your tiny little thing! :) You're probably going to pick up a few bugs in the next few months now that Poppy's at nursery and mixing with so many germy kids!

Childminding money sounds good Dinah, but I suppose you're right about the bed rest thing when you have another baby. Seems a shame to have to put it back for a few years for the sake of a few months though IYKWIM. :)

You had any luck finding a wedding cake Poddle?! :)

    Hi Dinah

Just delurking to advise your mum to contact the local council with regards to organising home care support for your Grandad or they would even be able to organise respite for him for when they do want to go to Venice.

I work in my local council's Adult Services so know how hard it is for families to care for sick members of the family and as much as they do it's also a strain so the extra help would be a bonus.

Each Council is different with regards to charges, but there should be a fairer charging policy and it would be based on your Grandfather's income. Also Welfare Rights should be able to help with advocating on behalf of your parents for Attendance Allowance.

Hope this helps you and I'll now go back to lurking.

Thanks Alioops, that's really helpful. I'll get her to call, she's off school for easter for the next 3 weeks so she's got no reason not to call then.

Hello ladies, sorry for promising cake pics and then disappearing, wholly unacceptable! Hopefully these work as I seem to have forgotten how to link to pics properly...

Before to scale with a cupcake to show how scary big it was, and after

Dinah, that is bad about the attendance allowance, I'm pretty sure my mum gets it for my nan, she is 91 but reasonably fit physically and mentally. I hope they manage to sort it, and sorry to hear your grandad is no better.

Cinny, the pup pics are just too cute! Keep them coming!

Birdie - I went to a craft fair last year and I know what you mean, it was like a rugby scrum at times! And everyone had those little suitcases on wheels, I swear they only brought them to bash people's ankles!

Hope you feel better soon Wendz x

Wow, that cake is amazing Shrimpy! :D Well done! :T

Getting nervous about my eye lasering tomorrow! Also had a slight freak out this morning whilst getting ready that I'll be able to see everything clearly all the time rather than the fuzzy out-of-focus view I get before I find my glasses right now; I'm just not used to that! :o

That is indeed a pretty fabulous looking cake Shrimpy. I tried to do a rainbow cake last year, but it didn't come out anywhere near as well.

Good luck for tomorrow Birdie, not that you'll need it. It'll be so exciting next week and for a few weeks after every single morning will be like Christmas.

Hospital bag is packed, ready for potential readmission this afternoon. BP this morning was 159/122 so I can't really see how I'll go to the appointment and it be under 100.

sorry about your BP, Dinah - it must be horrible going in and out of hospital :( but at least you're making the most of time cuddled up with NIM in your own bed.

I really hope that your parents manage to get some help with your Grandad, it's so hard on everyone.

Wow Shrimpy, your cake was worth the wait - it's ace! One of these days I'd like to try my hand at one - was it the Martha Stewart recipe?

I've decided to commission a wedding cake from my local teashop - I have sampled enough to know that they make pretty great cakes :o It will probably be about £150 including delivery, which IS a lot, but it takes away all the stress the day before wedding and trying to transport/stack a 3-tier cake on the morning of the wedding plus all the ingredients and new tins etc

Ooh, I have a question - has anybody been to a civil ceremony where there is a song? ie. instead of a hymn... We'd really love to include something for everyone to sing, but what...? It has to be secular, appropriate and easy to sing. Something like All You Need Is Love, but less Love, Actually :D Any ideas?!

Wow, Birdie! So exciting about your eye surgery - the idea freaks me out, but I know lots of people know who have had it done and say BEST. DECISION. EVER!

Hooray for having the wedding cake sorted Poddle! Have you got much more to sort? Not long now! :j Not too sure about songs, needs to be something simple that most people will know, even if they don't really know it, how about 'I wanna hold your hand', simple tune, easy words and fun to sing! :)

Hope you don't get sent back to hospital this afternoon Dinah! :)

The baking on here really makes me want to bake more cakes, but then they tend to go wrong and I get disheartened. :o Have you tried making croquembouche again Poddle?!

Just had my hair cut in my lunch hour, it's way shorter than I thought it'd be, but it makes a nice change :) I figured if I can't wear eye make-up for 3 weeks I should at least have decent hair! ;)
