That's very good going Wendz! :) It won't be long until you get Poppy doing them too! ;)

ETA: I can't believe how quickly the dark mornings have arrived Archers, it was OK before we went away, now it's just plain dark when I wake up! Don't like it!

Sorry to be a party pooper but I hate Halloween.

Ooh Dinah - date night. I'd love to do that with DH. Feel like I've hardly seen him at all the last couple of weeks. I told him the other night that the next time we actually get a full day together will probably be the day I have the baby! I know he's working a lot to get extra money to have a buffer for when my pay drops but still I'd like to see him. Sorry moan over

"Nim: You haven't been yourself lately
    Me: How so
    Nim: You're happy"

Must just be glad to finally feel like we're moving forwards.

Starnac how can you hate the chance to make/eat halloween food!? I can't wait to make ghost buns.

Birdie it was light one day and super dark the next, rubbish! Do the clocks change soon? I never know if we gain or lose daylight time...

They change on the last weekend in oct. It will get darker earlier but a bit lighter again in the mornings.

Clocks go back in a couple of weeks I think, there'll be a reminder around Martin's head when it's happening. We're supposed to gain extra daylight in the morning, but it just seems to feel dark all the time after it happens :(

Nice to know that you're feeling chipper Dinah, it's much better to hit things with a PMA, seems a lot easier! I know I'm a better person to live with when I'm happy too! :)

I love pumpkin pie but I don't see the attraction with encouraging our kids to go out threatening people for sweets. I'd much rather celebrate something good and positive than all the evil beings in our world! Bet you wish you'd never asked now archers!

Dinah what about a set of coasters for your glass project? They could be a nice Christmas present for someone or a family heirloom that comes out every Christmas to NIM boring the kids with "mummy made those you know" ;)

I'd like to point out that Hollowe-en was originally the Celtic festival of Samhain, a harvest festival and the night when the walls between our world and t'other were thinnest and one could commune with the dead, save the palace of the high king at Tara from the demon who burned it to the ground each year (see childhood of Fionn Mac Cumhaill if your curious). Mainly it was a rememberance and celebration of those who had died in the last year and the start of the new year.

Kinda got a bit...usurped by other religions / popular culture since then. Its saddening to see what it has become

Starnac I'll be too busy boring the kids with a LOT of other stories to bore them with that :)

I agree the holiday has been changed by popular culture etc but it is still a festival of dead spirits. When Christians die we go to heaven so there are no lines to be blurred on all hallows eve. Sorry

Its a new year celebration, covering first and foremostly, the successful harvest, secondly the lives of those who died in the last year and thirdly the whole "communing with the dead" side of things. I understand your side of things but I've done a LOT of reading on religion in general and hold a different viewpoint on the whole "lines being blurred" side of things. For the record though I'm christian. I'd be delighted to continue this discussion with you further over PM's but I think keeping it on the board is a bad idea as I don't think either of us wants to make anyone else feel uncomfortable.

Plus the way people by and large celebrate it today is as a lay event. Just and excuse to put on a daft costume and go to a party / have a few drinks. Leaving the yobs out of it obviously.
