I buy washing powder thats on offer or cheap. Surf washing powder 100 washes was £10.00 in B&M. I stay away from the really cheap powder as its usually full of bleach so not good for your clothing. Also the box of soap powder I bought will give two hundred washes as I half the amount used.
  • I suffer from eczema and I have to be very careful what I use. I can only use Persil (blue and green), and I tend to get it when it is on offer in Wilkos or in Tesco. The last one I got was was a 50 wash powder and I use the top off my liquid bottle to measure it out! I always get more washes out of pack. As for toilet roll, Triple Velvet is £2.50 for 6 rolls in Iceland at the minute or £5.00 for 12 in the Co Op!

I used to buy the Nicky toilet rolls - but found that they seemed to make the bathroom get dusty quickly - dont know if anyone else had that problem?

I now buy the packs of four 3-ply toilet rolls from Iceland for £1.00. Only 25p a roll and its good quality and doesnt seem to make as much dust as the Nicky brand.

  • what is Nickys toilet paper?
Nicky is one of Intertissues minor brands their biggest brand being Regina.
Nicky is made from 100% virgin pulp (freshly cut timber used solely for a product which will only be in use for a couple of seconds then flushed away & for obvious reasons cannot be recycled) that could of been used for another purpose & recycled numerous times before finally being turned into toilet tissue.
The more popular Nicky Elite 3ply range also has added lotion & perfume which add to the pollutants in the waste water your home produces which incurs a lot of unnecessary extra ependiture to remove when purifying the waste water before it is allowed back into a watercourse.
It is slightly softer than recycled TP that is not treated with unnecessary pollutants & embossed (embossing is a process which uses vast amounts of energy to add a little bulk & softness but primarily a decorative finish).
It's obviously not suitable for anyone who chooses to use environmentally friendly products but it is fairly cheap.

Contrary to popular opinion the Nicky in the green packs is perfumed according to the manufacturers as is every other colour pack in the Nicky Elite range.

Toilet roll, OH will only use Andrex or Velvet, so just whenever these are on offer we'l stock up.

That made me laugh tbh. So if he's sitting there looking at a roll of other TP and needs to wipe his butt, he'll refuse to do it untill you drive down to Tesco and buy him some Andrex? Also, what does he do when he's out? Carry his own roll of TP around?????:rotfl:

Sorry, but there's fussy and there's really fussy. I've never heard of a man being fussy about TP before...even women who have strong preferences will make do with what's to hand if that's all there is. Anyway, how can he tell what brand it is? Does he insist on seeing the wrapper before it goes on the holder?

I must remember to tell my OH about this one...the last time he noticed what toilet paper we were using was when I found one of these inserts that sang Merry Christmas to you when you unrolled it.

Oh yes, what do I use? Well, the mental maths challenge of the TP aisle in Tesco is one I enjoy tbh, so really it's whatever is cheapest on the day. Or the Lidl stuff, or one of their offers. For washing powder ditto...I got five boxes of the Daisy stuff at Tesco when there was a misprice offer of 98p for a 28 wash box, but currently I'm stocking up on half price Persil non-bio at £3.20 for 28 washes, in Tesco. There's also a coupon in the coupon thread for £1 off Persin non-bio products so £2.20 a box. I do try to keep a couple of boxes ahead of myself in washing powder because I do hate to be forced into buying non-bargain anything! But Lidl make a good fall back.

Washing up liquid? The same...got lots of the £1 BOGOF Fairy Platinum atm. And for the dishwasher I bought a years worth of the Tesco Value tablets when they were 15p a box of 30, though otherwise I'd get lidl ones.

I think the most sensible thing is to have a regular default product...in my case normally Lidl own brands...and then keep a sharp eye out for offers of either fancier brands for the same money or cheap deals. I live in a soft water area anyway so don't need as much powder as they say on the packet, or softeners or fabric conditioners or descalers or such. That saves a lot of money too. I'm not entirely sure why our local supermarkets stock such products tbh, because they're completely unnecessary with our water. So one moneysaving tip is to know your water type!

  • of course if you use 50% less toilet paper. you will reduce your cost whatever you buy.

i'm not fussy with either just try to stock up when there are offers on need toilet rolls though I am down to my last four.
  • Washing Powder - 10p per wash or less. I sometimes add a squirt of washing up liquid. I have just started adding some soda crystals, but am not sure if its making a difference or not tbh.

    Fabric Conditioner - 10p a wash

Toilet roll 25p a roll - Have been using Nicky for a while now.
Wish they stocked the Regina, near me, as the ones with the flower design are my favourite :p For now I'll settle for Nicky! :D

I actually had to have a word with myself and stop stocking up on this kind of thing, more so the washing powder and Conditioner! I have plently of Surf/strawberry Conditioner from the DTD promotion and a few of the 25p misprice lenors which was on about 18 months ago!
Still, if it was a super duper price, I'd prob buy it!
