Big problem with Advent laptop

Hi everyone
I am wondering if anyone could help me please? As you will see from my description of the problem, I have very little knowledge about the workings of a computer and the correct names/terminology
so I hope you can bear with me
.
I have an Advent 7036 which has been rarely used because it was so slow. Today I decided that it was time to take action so I ran the disk cleanup and defragmenter and removed some unknown/unused programmes.
Unfortunately I now have no internet connection, iTunes is unable to find any music (although it is all still listed in my library) and no doubt there are other problems that I haven't discovered yet
.
I phoned BT about my internet connection and they talked me through what to do and they tell me I have removed the network driver/adapter? There are no icons at all when I click into Network places
. They said I have to take it to PC World and have them reinstall them.
I have tried copying the drivers from my working Advent laptop and put them on the broken one via external drive but the broken one isn't acknowledging the external drive.
I have the system recovery cd and wondered if that would solve my problems but all the files on it mean nothing to me, I don't know what I have to do with it!! I had hoped it would just spring into action and do the necessary but alas no!
Can anyone help me or should I just bite the bullet and take it to PC World and let the experts attempt to fix it?
Thanks for reading (apologies for my ignorance!)

never take it to pcw, you'll end up with a massive hole in the wallet for probably no benefit.....let's see if we can dissect what you're telling us.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

spec here, so you'll need drivers for the prism wifi card...
Drivers
Your laptop should have a backup copy of all the drivers, you can find it by browsing to the c:\applications\drivers folder.
The 7036 is basically a rebadged Medion WID2000, you can also download the drivers and user manual from the Medion website. To find the correct drivers for your laptop search using the 5-digit MD number printed underneath your laptop.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Thanks GunJack, I thought I'd get laughed off the board!
I do have files in the Driver folder as per your post :j
Please tell me I just have to click on the right one and all will be well, lol?!?
ETA re downloading from the website, how will I get the download from the working laptop to the broken one since its not acknowledging the external drive?0 -

okay, find the wifi card drivers in that folder, and double-click it. If it's an installer, it should install itself.
Sounds like you deleted all but the last restore point when you did the cleanup.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

alternatively, right-click on My Computer, select Properties > Hardware > Device Manager, and look down the list for your network adapter or unknown devices, they'll have a yellow & black exclamation mark by it/them......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Can you remember what you removed?
what drivers are missing from device manager?
Are you in safe mode?

Thanks for the instructions. 2 of the files in the Prism xpver folder are .dll files, prism resources and driver interface library, and one is a .sys system file and the rest is just text and an .exe that doesn't run anything. When I click on the .dll and .sys I get a warning saying I could damage the system (pity I didn't get this warning earlier!!). Should I open any or all of them? Thanks a million for your time.0 -
