Chicken Pasta Bake

Thanks very much - it says on that recipe to cook the pasta first but on the pasta jar it says no need to cook the pasta - what do others think?
I'm inclined to cook the chicken, onions in the wok, boil the pasta in the saucepan add to the wok with sauce then transfer into overproof dish add cheese on top and bake for 20mins...0 -
I made the mistake of following the instructions in the past & ended up with very uncooked pasta - wasn't very nice!
Now I tend to cook the pasta until it is nearly ready. Then to the drained pasta I add everything else, i.e. sauce, chicken etc. Top with cheese & then bung in the oven until everythings heated through.

I usually cook the chicken (and whatever else I have to hand), then layer that in a dish with raw onion, followed by the (uncooked) pasta, followed by the sauce. Little tip - add some more water to whatever it tells you and leave it in the oven for 10 minutes longer too otherwise the pasta isnt done enough.
Must admit, its sooooo much nicer to make your own but my daughter wont eat mine...Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

while the pasta is cooking i dry fry some chicken, onions and peppers.
i put it all in the oven dish, add the sauce and grate cheese on top and then pop in the oven.
i did try the pour on uncooked pasta version before and my ds and dh hated it as the pasta was still crunchy..

Thanks everyone - I'm certainly going to go and boil the pasta and then put cooked meat with sauce and cheese into dish.
Struggling to understand how uncooked pasta ends up cooked after baking in an oven:mad:0 -

The jar usually says to put the sauce in, then refill the jar to 2/3 with water and add that too. This then soaks into the pasta as it cooks, but its usually only in the oven for 20 mins or so.
What I do is put the sauce in, then put a whole jar of water in on top of that, and leave it in for 30-35 mins. Lovely, sticky, soft pasta.Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

Hi Msdee:j
There is a whole thread about chicken pasta bake, which may offer help or suggestions in future.
Also, pasta bake recipes , and recipe for a pasta bake sauce using uncooked pasta should offer loads of suggestion and ideas for future pasta bakes
Do let us know how you got on and I'll merge this for you later on with the first link
Thanks

hi everyone,
am sitting with my laptop on my tummy and I look about 9 months gone because of the...pasta bake.
it went something like this..chicken diced and fried with onions (added dried herbs) to the chicken to jazz it up.
Cooked fusili and then ran cold water through the sieve to stop it sticking together, then added to the wok and added the creamy tom pasta bake sauce (put a bit of water in the bottom of the jar) to get the last bits out.
Transferred into the dish and sprinkled grated cheese with black pepper and herbs on the top and baked for 20 mins until cheese turned brown.
IT WAS SO YUMMY....gooey pasta with cheese and flavour and the chicken makde it more solid, rather than just pasta and sauce. I then served with baked white rolls (34p from lidl for four - get down there if you haven't, it is soooooo cheap)
Just cleaned kitchen with stardrops and the rest of the pasta will be taken to work by my b.f for his lunch.
Oh and if you've been on MSE all night...David Cameron is our new Prime Minister and Nick Clegg is Deputy PM...
I hope he gives tax relief on O.S MSE:D0 -
I wanna make a chicken & bacon pasta bake type thing but with a tin or two of tomatoes in it.
My plan is;
cook pasta as per instructions
brown onion, peppers and garlic
brown chicken cubes and bacon bits
put all together with a tin or two of tomatoes, season and herbs etc
bring to the boil then transfer to a baking dish
top with mozzarella and cook for 15 minutes or so
However, most of the pasta bake dishes I've seen tend to use milk and flour rather than tomatoes. Will what I want to do work? Or should I add the milk and flour? Or remove the tomatoes completely? :undecided0 -
Yes it will work - I have done it many a time
Don't overdo the liquid tho because the lack of flour means it will not thicken... You could always stir in some cornflour/water mix to thicken it as it cooks0
