I'll move from mid month pay to month end pay, so I'm going to be six weeks without pay now.

Will you not get an interim pay at the end of this month - it's only the 15th?
I'm already having trouble saying no to things, have been invited to a Ceilidh that a friend has organised, I have a night out to attend, and potentially a Christening to go to. I have to be strong and start saying no to things, these are the only things I can do now, I just don't have the spare money to socialise as much

So you prioritise. A social event will have to be worth so much more to you now.
For my leaving present I got a £50 Next voucher, so I can get some bits for work. I think I'll need a new suit, so that should cover almost all the cost of it. I don't know whether to go this weekend, so I can start my new job in a smart new suit, or to wait and see what other people are wearing.

Go smart - but it doesn't need to be new-smart.

  • Well I know their pay date is the last day of the month, so I have a small hope that they'll have got me on the payroll system and are just waiting for me to arrive on Monday to get bank details, but working in HR myself I know it's not always the case that I'll be added in time for payroll close down.

    July 2012 Debt: £8099 (HSBC Loan, £300 O/D)

    Baby Savings: £500/£1000
    New Kitchen Savings: £1500/£3500

Would the deadline not be about Thursday next week? Or are we just super-efficient? ;)

Don't expect your tax to be sorted out though. Miracles but happen once a year... :rotfl:

I left my job yesterday, start in the new one on Monday. I'm quite scared about starting the new job, but it's more money, and only 15 minutes walk away - rather than 2 buses and 2.5 hours travelling a day....
Congratulations, that's great news:beer: Especially in the current climate and all that

Eek. Eeeeeek. Still, it's short term pain for long term gain:)

I have to be strong and start saying no to things, these are the only things I can do now, I just don't have the spare money to socialise as much, and the socialising I do is going to have to be a lot cheaper than I'm used to. I will have to drink less, or not drink at all.

Not drinking at all would probably be a better option!

Why don't you say to yourself that you are allowed to accept every third invitation (as long as it's something you want to do). Ceilidhs are fun and you probabaly won't drink much because you'll be busy jigging so could be cheap while you're there. Decline the Christening because they're usually long and you'd feel obliged to buy a gift. And just 'no' to nights out for the next 6 weeks anyway (if you can manage that):D

All easier said than done, I know.

As for the suit, I would wait to see what everyone else wears. I bet you'll get away with a smart shirt and trousers.

  • Hi Banwa - Going to take your advice and see what everyone else wears tomorrow, then pop down to Next after work and pick up some bits, it's open till 7 luckily!

  • Well my big news today is that I've (finally) told the flatmate I want to leave.

I feel like a terrible person for letting her down, but she agreed that she could tell I wasn't happy here.

She's asked if she can find someone quicker than starting 1st Jan if I'd be happy to go sooner - of course I said yes, if that happens I can start saving quicker!

What a weight off my mind!

Just remember for the future, that it wasn't as bad as you were expecting. That'll help when you're worrying about stuff in the future.

Ah you are very brave, that must be a relief. She would probably rather you leave before any lasting damage is done to your friendship by you staying and making yourself unhappy anyway.

And good luck from me too for tomorrow:)
