    'supported their decision'

Yes, her mother didn't support her & kicked her out whereas i'm doing everything in my power to help them.

I took them to the hospital for the scan last week & i'm providing a roof over they're heads so I think I am supporting them.

Hi I Love Harrison, hope you are ok.

I think it is a great thing that you are doing in giving this girl your support, take no notice of the nasty posts,as always, some having nothing else to do.

Look on freecycle, many people give away maternity clothes, baby clothes etc.

When you can get past the trauma of it all I hope you can look forward to being Grandma to this baby - it is the best feeling in the world!!

Thanks, they had the scan last week & seeing the picture made it all real, to me this girl is carrying my grandchild & that makes her family so of course i'll help her as much as I can.

Though OP initially advised an abortion (that's how I interpreted it too), the circumstances suggest that she didn't force the issue and accepted that this wasn't what they wanted.

It's possible to support someone in their decision even while you disagree with it. It's almost impossible to be a friend or a parent (or any sort of social animal) otherwise, I think.

Maybe use the 300 bursary towards a private termination.

Child at 17 is a disgrace.

I'll tell my Mother that when I see her on Monday

How is it a disgrace? The situation in the OP might be a disgrace in your eyes, but don't write all 17 year old parents off.

My Mum had me 3 days before her 18th, my Dad was working full time, they were married and I have only memories of a loving and happy childhood.

  • What a sad cycle of events. Mother of eight, two when same age as daughter, kicks out daughter for following the same example she has set. I can see this whole sorry affair being repeated in about another 17 years.
I think the OP is making and doing the best. I agree that her son should continue his education as it is the only way out of this but why hasn't the mantra of contraception being drummed into those involved and just how soon will it be until the poor girls brothers and sisters are all in this same situation.

OP I wish you all and your (new) family the best in getting this sorted, I am sure that there will be some point in the future when things will start to be better.

p.s.- In about six months time give your son a big box of condoms.

That's the part i'm angry about tbh as I did have the talk & gave him condoms.

He assured me he wouldn't be that daft.

What's done is done & as long as he gets his head down at college he will be in a better position to provide for his family in a couple of years.

No dear, that was your definition of supporting their decision.

I admit that I didn't want my 16 year old son to be a father & yes I tried to make him see that this wasn't the right time to have a baby but he insisted that they wanted it & I stood by that decision.

Im sorry, I dont mean to be rude but I really cant stand people who turn to abortion as an escape route. It should be available for rape victims and mothers of poorly babies.

For fear of sounding like Jeremy Kyle...he shouldn't of given his present if he doesnt know how to wrap it up.

The plan was for her to get a job but she doesn't seem to do very well in interviews as she is very shy.

Temp agencies might be an option to consider.
  • I'm not sure she will be able to claim anything.... As I found out i was pregnant while still at college and couldnt do so untill after the baby was born which was after the vourse had ended in june had baby in august didnt get money untill Sept..... the HIP health in pregnancy grant has been stopped now but will get maternity grant I got mine after baby was born . Hope you manage to get sorted
