They trialed it over here in NI, and it's really good as you don't need to shop around. You don't have to waste time at CS or sitting on the computer entering receipt details either, it all happens at the till when you pay. You will either get a coupons to tell you how much you have saved or a coupon to spend in store. :j
is it just me - or do others think the same .... why not just reduce the price to the same as others? or - maybe - if they give out vouchers - you will go back and maybe spend even more money...0 -

It looks like it will match BOGOFS etc. But I was in store today and there was no advertising and the lady on the CS desk didn't know what I was talking about. Is it def happening this Wednesday?
Judging from the info pack that my supervisors had - yes. I'm not allowed to read these. Which isn't fair for me and to help you guys out.0 -

But the example given is for Bells Whisky, not an own brand.
I can appreciate that a lot of people, especially mums with young children often don't have the time to shop around, but most people on these forums do, which is really the whole raison d'etre of MSE.
like visiting these forums, but dont shop around, i have never done the asda or tesco price checker thingy.
i like to shop in one place - in my arm chair.0 -
What is the point? If the whisky is cheaper in T's why not buy it in T's? After all, the £3 voucher can presumably only be spent in Sainsburys.
Whats the point? Two words to describe from my experience: Customer and Service! Would rather shop in Sainsburys and tend to do so just purely so I can feel less like I've done something wrong when getting to the till point as oppose to being smiled at and spoken to like a person! (Yet another bad experience at Tescos again this evening, all because the diet schweppes lemonade is cheaper there! Roll on the Sainsburys deal!!)0 -

I'm guessing because the prices would change too fast- they could do it the way your suggesting but say its monday, they have apples at £2 a kilo as Tescos and Asda do, then tuesday Asda reduce them to be £1 a kilo and you decide to hit Sainsburys on that tuesday...but the signs for £2 are already up, so they change this at the till- had they waited a day you may not get the same deal until they can get the signs changed in all the stores which could take a few days. Say then Tesco changes those same apples to 50p a kilo the wednesday....again more sign changes and you begin to see the costs...
Nope, can see the logic in it working this way (as well it making more sense from a marketing point of view as in "oooh I can't wait to pay and see how much money I get back")0 -
I cannot see why this would not work with online orders, they just deduct the difference at the checkout..right?You live..You learn.:)0

I'm cynical of this "promotion" as I see it as "forced loyalty".
It's got to be in Sainsbury's interests to be dearer to enable them to give out a voucher which in turn gets you to come back (forced loyalty). If the voucher is for a small amount and/or you can't be bothered to use it, or even lose it, then Sainsbury's have achieved a higher price. I suppose if you don't get a voucher, then you have achieved the lowest price (of the matched stores anyway) and you will know you have "won", but no way will that be 100% - not with Sainsbury's prices anyway.
Instead of giving a voucher, why can't it just be deducted at the till?? They actually know how much the voucher would be for, so just simply deduct the amount Sainsbury's are dearer. Of course this would not get you back to spend the voucher!!
I can see advantages to busy family types etc and it will probably be of a benefit to them and those already loyal to Sainsbury's.
I'll stick to Sainsbury's for their reduced priced items - lot more value there and probably the best of the rest for freshness at the best before or use by dates.
Good luck.

i think they are looking into it for online orders, i only over heard the bit about "brand check" "sainsburys to you" and "not available yet" but ive not had the department meeting about it yet.0 -
From what I could read online about online shopping
"There are currently technical limitations which prevent us from being able to offer Sainsbury’s Brand Match to our online grocery customers. We understand how frustrating this is for online customers and we are looking in to solutions."
Strikes me as, people will go on mysupermarket and pin point all the offers to get bigger value vouchers. End of the day my internet groceries seem to go through a till as normal, I get a normal receipt with my order that appears to have been scanned through a checkout? So not sure why it's not possible. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
