Problems with cancelling O2/CPW contracts!

I cancelled 2 O2 contracts - gave them 30 days notice.
I've now received 2 letters from O2 saying that I should have sent the letters to CPW/O2 and not them!!!
As a result, the cancellation did not take place, and I have now received the 13 month bill (in full) for both accounts. - both were 12 month free line rental deals.
Where do I stand on this? Can I make a song & dance about it and get a refund/refuse to pay the 13 month bill, or am I stuck with it and put it down to experience?
Thanks.

Unfortunately you will need to pay your 13th bill and will have to put this one down to experience.0 -
CPW are a bunch of liars, I sent a letter to cancel the contract and they said I needed to call them first. :mad:0

Sorry if its off the topic.
Some networks you can give 30days disconnection notice over the phone and other you have to write to them, why is this the case?
thanks0 -

If your phone was bought through e2 save, OSPS or CPW then although your network provider is O2 your contract is actually with CPW/O2.
This means that you have to go through them in relaiton to disconnecting. The process is two stage.
First you have to ring them on 0870 1117200 and ask to be discnnected. This number I beleive is for retentions and once you have gone through this process they provide you with a DRN number (or is it DNR?)
Anyway you then need to write to them (at a choice of different addresses depending on who you speak to ) listing the number in your letter.
The disconnection doesn't take place till 30 days from the date they receive the letter. (so I suggest Recorded Delivery on this one).
Make sure you chase it up by calling back on 0870 1117200 to check the disconneciton date .
P.s I am sure that there is a non 0870 number you can ring- check out saynoto0870.comMark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

We cancelled a pure O2 phone last year, read the T&Cs and sent the letter to them which never arrived... (funny that)
My wife rang (it was her phone) and got some guff about having had to ring first and got her to pay out for a 'good deal' (more than free...)
I rang them and quoted their own T&Cs to them, the guy wondered what I was reading and after quite a few calls they gave a full refund.
You could try calling, daily, until they disconnect you...Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

i am pretty certain that no matter how good their offer is, it won't be a freebie which is what the original e2 save one was (albeit paying for several recorded delivery letters and chase ups!)
the moral is that generally you will probably get a much better deal taking out a new contract than sticking with the retailer after your initial contract is up- however the new deals will invariably incorporate cash backs so be aware.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0
