Good luck with that one. I hate finding interesting old books in perfect condition and having no idea what they are worth, especially if they are priced at something like £10. It makes you think 'could this be a gold nugget, or just a piece of crap that is overpriced that i will be lumbered with?'

do you know anyone that has access to a pc who is available for you to ring up as and when???

    the reason for asking is........

if you are not sure if a book or anything for that matter is worth buying or not, ring up your partner/friend/whoever and get them to do a search on it.

this will not only save you buying on a whim, but will give you a good idea if there is much profit in it...(whether it's worth buying)

I did this yesterday and low and behold....1902 first(i think) of Beatrix Potters Peter Rabbit....the reason I say I think is that my partner rang up yesterday and found 3 early Beatrix Potter editions,so until tonight I will not know for sure....have to wait and see !

    kind regards Bukup
  • Is anybody else having problems listing items on Amazon? For the last few days the system I've been unable to submit my listing.

I've often wondered this. Ideally, you could have a wifi PDA you could do it yourself on the spot. Hey, maybe we should start up a business doing that! Sit at the pc with a headset and a database/internet, then ppl can call us with the details that we'll check up on, and then branch out into the wifi thing, lol.

I've been in Oxfam and seen a guy with a big folder going through all the old Sci Fi books and checking them out etc, not sure if he worked for oxfam or was a collector etc.

I did mention a tool called scoutpal that would do all this a couple of pages back.

Basically it's an addon for a web enabled mobile phone that allows you to scan the barcode and check it's current price. If it hasn't got a barcode you can punch the details in yourself.

Depending on how serious you are going to be about trawling charity shops and car boots it may be a good investment in the longrun. Doesn't suit my buying system though so don't know much more than I read on the website, but seems one heck of a gadget!

That would be cool. At the moment I just write the details into my phone then check it out later, which means it's gone by the time i realise that 1st edition Tolkien with hand written annotation is actually worth something!

On another note, I sold ANOTHER book today. 3 in just over a week. Considering i only have 15 listed, that's pretty good.

  • Well done tsharp!
Wish my sales ratio was like that!

My sales on Amazon are dead but strangely enough I've had a little flurry (well 2 books) on Greenmetropolis today, both hardbacks with additional postage charges applied which gives me more money than I woul dhave got on Amazon. The one I have just sold is part of a set and I have the rest listed on both Amazon and greenmet, am so tempted to add something to my packing slip mentioning my Amazon id...but I suppose I really shouldn't...

Come on Amazon, put some more money in the meter and switch my listings back on, I need some sales. I'm away at the weekend so will probably switch to holiday settings anyway so I don't have to worry about selling something Friday night and not being able to post until Tuesday morning.
