  • Hi Tweek,

I haven't sold anything over the last 3 days at all - feeling very depressed.

I normally average at least 1 a day, more often 2. But it looks like I am switched off at the moment.

what sort of books do you list and which usually sell

i have 300 ish listed and it seems to be the chic lit ones that i have sold up to now been listed for week and a half and sold 13 approx £1 profit per book after pro seller membership and postage but reusing clean and tidy jiffy bags at the moment not incurring packaging costs...

This has probably been asked/covered a million times, but what is the value of posting books at 1p? I assume they sell for a total of £2.76, then minus the amazon cost, and then postage, surely it's a waste of time?

  • Hello all

I was wondering if someone could help as you all seem very experienced with the whole amazon thing.:T

I have a small amount of books that I would like to list on Amazon, mainly childrens and some gardening/plants books.

How do I go about registering and selling?
How is the postage worked out?

I have a 2 book boxset of RHS encyclopedia of garden plants and these weigh quite a bit and for obvious reasons do not want to loose out on under estimating the postage, have tried to find on on amazon site but am getting a bit confused.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated:D

  • I think the best advice I can give (I'm tired!) is print out the first 2 posts on this thread, it looks long but it's not complicated and is easy to follow when you get your head around it
If I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from

Hi quick learner - welcome to the thread, I think the advice given in the post above is the best - thats how i got started and its not difficult - just print off the first two posts in the thread and go through them at your own pace. Loads of goodd advice in there and everything you need to get you started. Then if you have any further questions just come back with them and we'll do what we can to help.

Re postage costs, its importnat to make sure you get these right otherwise you can make a loss. Best way to do it is weigh your item and then check on the Royal Mail website to see what it'll cost also taking into account size of any packaging/jiffy bag etc you might use. Don't forget to also take into account the fees Amazon take if you sell.

Good luck - hope you get your first sale soon

Hi tsharp - it depends on the size/weight of the book. Also pro-seller will not pay the 68p or is it 86p Amazon fee [I think its one or the other?] Presumably big sellers will also have a RM account getting cheaper postage so even if not much profit there if the volume is high I guess its worth their while.

Personally i have very few 1p books and only those that will cost little to post. I think some people must be selling them at a loss even if all the provisos above are in place as some 1p books are so big or heavy. I've bought a few that I thought would be ok but turned out to have loads for sale. I have plenty space and am not in a hurry so list them a bit higher and sometimes they do sell before the 1p listings. I have ok feedback, put in lots of info and post next working day and I think all that helps.

Some books I also list on GreenMetropolis where I might make a bit more if it sells - again no cost to list. Maybe some sellers just refund when they realise how much they will lose after postage on a heavy 1p book???

Its one of those Amazon mysteries

    Thanks teapot

have had a quick read, very interesting and seems pretty straight forward, I am already a seller on ebay so can't imagine it being more complicated than that.

Many thanks again for the replies
Wish me luck on my mission................

Will be back if I get stuck:eek:

    Bye for now

Easier than Ebay - no photos to take, no paypal to deal with - Amazon collects the cash... no listing fee if it doesn't sell.....Relatively straightforward mostly.

Of course there can be tricky books and even trickier buyers [the ones who don't read the listings :p ] just read through earlier threads for examples  but once you take the plunge and sell the first one you'll hooked :j

I started last April having never done any selling before and still get a buzz...

    Good luck
