iPhone 4s

Its funny how some many people get heated/frustrated and post on a thread that really just gives them a chance to vent - something missing in life I think
I clicked on this thread becaue I am an Apple 4 user and wondered what others people thought on iPhone 4s
Shame about the personal and negative remarks of the few, but then I guess thats the magical make-up of our society and nothing will change
I think the iPhone 4gs is a subtle improvement on the 4. as I've said i didn't expect much because of ios5 and iCloud being far more important to Apple at the mo. they've increased spec to compete with HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy 2, but clearly HTC and Samsung will release much better phones in the coming months i have no doubt about that.
If i was due an upgrade i wouldn't be parting with my money for the 4gs, i'd be waiting to see what next year's offering is.
for anyone who was buying their first smartphone and was asking me about the iPhone, i would encourage them to see the HTC Sensation, a friend has one and i really like it, i don't know much about the Samsung phones...0 -
I have to admit that I am equally sceptical over the practicality of Siri/ voice activation but it wouldn't be the first time that something that has been seen as a "gimmick" when first released has since become the expected norm... I remember my first phone that had internet browsing capabilities (obviously WAP back then) and everyone asking why on earth you'd want to browse the internet on a phone and yet now mobile browsing represents a significant proportion of all UK traffic0

I think Apple shoot themselves in the foot to some extent. I was looking at tablets the other day, considering what I might buy. I overheard a couple talking about the IPad 2 and they were saying the IPad 3 will be out soon so there's no point buying one.
The thing is, when you look on the web, people are already talking about the IPad 5 so even if they went for the IPad 3 it would still be seen as outdated by 2 generations - meybe they'd better wait for the IPad 5?
I think its pretty much impossible to keep up with the latest spec - it seems whatever you buy it will be obsolete as soon as you walk out of the shop.0 -
How have they shot themselves in the foot?
Apple, typically, release a new version of their hardware every 12 months. If you look at hardware that run other OSs like Windows or Android then you have new hardware released at a minimum monthly and in reality it is probably daily if you look at the thousands of hardware providers for Windows PCs.
The advantage of Apple is that it isn't obsolete the second you walk out the shop -v- other brands where it was obsolete by the time it got to the shop.0 -

If that were true you might have a point. The problem is Apple fail to manage expectations. The couple I saw were talking as if the IPad 3 was going to be released tomorrow - and who's to say they aren't right? The rumours are that it could be released as early as next month despite the fact IPad 2 has only been around for 6 months. Perhaps the IPad 3 wont actually be out until next year.
In any case the uncertainty cost them a sale that day.
Its the same with the latest IPhone. Everyone was expecting the Iphone 5 but instead they got the 4s. Everyone is still expecting the IPhone 5 imminently which will put potential customers off buying into the newly released phone.
Obviously Apple products are still going to be very popular but I do think they could improve sales further it there was less uncertainty about their products.0 -

Yes but if Apple are to extend their user base further they need to appeal to more than just Apple fanbois who'll buy any old carp with an apple logo on it.0 -
I don't think Apple have shot themselves in the foot. It was the rumour mill that got carried away.
You only have to look at the previous incarnations of the iPhone to see they were going to release a 4s.
There was not much change in design from the original iPhone to the 2nd generation, mainly spec and rear changed and abit slimmer. The 3rd generation iphone (3GS) was virtually identical to the 2nd Generation in design other than, again, spec.
The 4th Gen was the first major departure design wise from the original so going on history people should have expected the new iPhone to be more of a spec update than a redesign, which is exactly what it's turned out to be.
The only gripe people have with the 4s is mainly the screen size from 3.5" to 4" otherwise the spec isn't a issue.
Considering Apple have just pre-sold a record 1 million units of the 4s in one day compared to their previous record of 600,000 that isn't what I would call shooting themselves in the foot.0 -
The 4S is an upgrade to the '3S', not the Iphone 4. It's release 2 years after the 3S means it'll hit the time when those peeps are due an upgrade.
I expect they're holding back for another year until the 4G network gets more established in the USA. You might also see the addition of NFC then also. They've hit the point where there is no need to increase the mega-pixels of the camera sensor.
The big jump now is going to be iOS 5. I'm surprised they didn't try for a simultaneous launch.0 -
I have an iphone 4 and I love it. I don't see the point in iphone4s. it is only marginally better, so i think that if you want a ohone you should get the i phone 4, and get the upgrade when you plug into itunes0
