This is a repost, it was originally put in the tesco "misprices" thread. I havent come across this anywhere else since I got a hold of these, having been in 2 additional stores (Glasgw somewhere, not sure exactly) - maybe I just got lucky.

Just picked up 3 Philips Music centres for £49 each (I-Pod docking, CD player, USB MP3, 20W RMS Total output power). SEL price was £110 or so in my local Tesco (W1shaw). Checked C0atbridge and Bellsh1ll also on the off chance, but they had none in.

Item is as below. Well chuffed at that, that takes care of 3 decent Christmas pressies.

Saw these in my local extra a few weeks ago with SEL £49 down from £110 amongst the clearance stuff. It's an obsolete model that has been replaced with a model that has a built in DAB radio

Why do some posters talk about crimes that simply DO NOT exist!

It is NOT fraud and there is no deceit either.

Tesco deliberately make comparing like for like goods difficult with complicated price labelling and frequent price changes. Their training of staff is often poor too, which result often in tardy labelling of items and OOD SEL's. To look for one and take advaantage of it is NOT a crime. YOU may not like the idea of it, but if others do then thats up to them. You have right to try to make people feel like criminals when they are not.
In reply I should first say that I can understand that for many people (including myself) that active DTD can be a grey area in terms of both morals and legality. I should also say that I am not condemning out of hand anybody for active DTD as it seems part of human nature to get something for nothing.

Depriving an individual of money or goods that you have no right to, in a premeditated way, just because they can afford it is surely a crime. I think the vast majority of people would have no doubt about that. When it is a corporation less people see it that way and justify their actions in various ways. Once you have to find ways to justify it I think you are admitting to yourself that it is somehow wrong.

The usual reasons are things like Tesco are making a fortune by overcharging people who have no idea they have been overcharged so lets help ourselves to some Tesco approved shoplifting in revenge. Before giving any credibility to this I would like to see some facts. If anyone has any I'd be more than glad to know about them to change my mind.

The only facts I have are from my own personal experience(and OH). Since joining MSE in 2006 I became aware of Tesco mispricing and have since always scrutinised receipts. My credit card records show that I've spent about £25000 at Tesco in 5 years excluding petrol. We must visit Tesco on average 3-4 times a week for shopping. In all of that time I have been accidently overcharged once by 49p. OH has been overcharged once by £1.
Looking at that from a statistics point of view it is hard to believe that their is mass overcharging but perhaps I'm not a typical shopper. I also find it hard to believe that there are many people who don't notice any of the large overcharges that active DTDers seek out. I do believe that there are possibly more overcharges for a few pence that go unnoticed but someone getting an active DTD payment of a large amount which I regularly see on here probably cancels the overcharges of hundreds of people.

One thing I would ask anybody to think about is, if you think it's not in anyway immoral or illegal are you happy to teach your children that this is the way to live your life. Is it then Ok to stage car bumps to get an insurance payout because the insurance companies make big profits and can afford it? Active DTD is the thin end of that wedge.

Not wanting to feel a hypocrite I have to admit that way back in 2006 I did engage in a bit of deliberate rNr when I frustratingly didn't get the flood of legitimate overcharges that I was expecting from these threads. Saw the error of my ways. I still seek a bargain at Tesco but to date I've never actively sought DTD.

Anyway sorry for the long sermon. It's not an attack on people but more of a thought provoking thing I wanted to get off my chest. Probably the wrong place as well' but it's done
