I don't think people were endorsing anything with stickers, they were just airing their frustrations at the manual overriding of cheaper prices.
My store has special k mint bars with £1 stickers (purchased for 44p before).

No it isn't theft. Shops aren't allowed to oversticker with a higher price. In every shop I've ever worked in that uses labels whenever there's been a price rise I've had to scrupulously remove all evidence of the lower price including any offending barcodes before sticking the new price on.

Don't be silly. Shops can charge you £1 million for a tin of beans if they choose, even if they were 10p the day before. And if they use stickers to do so, then that is fine.

You were removing the evidence of the lower price so that the customer did not catch on they had bought an item for more than it was last week. It also means that the customer cannot remove the newer, more expensive barcode to reveal the cheap one underneath.

So yes it is theft to remove the barcodes, it is tampering with the products and I am fairly sure that is some kind fo fraud.

So unless you want a night in the nick, or worse, I would not recommend.

So on one hand I have numerous bosses, spread across the country in different retail sectors, all adamant that I was doing it for legal reasons, and on the other I have someone random on the internet who reckons that they're 'fairly sure' otherwise...

Don't rise to it Rubisco.... the 'fairly sure' brigade tend to know absolutely nothing about what they are originally talking about.

You are 100% correct.... you cannot 'overstick' with a higher price.... fact.

You can charge whatever you like as long as all evidence of the lower price is removed.

Been in retail sector 30 years.

OK, so why do all the moon dough products at tesco have extra barcodes stuck on them, and the ones without scan at lower prices?

If you want to go and remove barcodes from products, fine, whether it is legal or not, fine, but you will be the one banned from stores, facing charges etc.

I won't rise to it either, I also won't be removing barcodes, and I won't be spending time in the cells.

Brag all you want about how long you have worked in retail, the number of bosses you have had, and the number of retail sectors you have worked in, I couldn't care less.

Most of what you read on the internet is made up anyways ;)
  • Look, I couldnt give a flying one if its legal or not. Maybes its more of a moral stance rather than anything else. However, i'm pretty bloody sure if we all walked into Mr T's tomorrow, peeling off the barcode stickers, SOMETHING would happen. I very much doubt we'd all be here tomorrow night laughing and joking about how clever we were beating the system....

Cant people just accept ITS WRONG, DONT DO IT!

I can only assume that you are replying to my post as it was the one prior to yours and mine was obviously aimed at you.

In no shape or for did I endorse removing barcode stickers - so don't go there.

I am not 'bragging' about how long I have worked in retail - simple satting that as I have been in it for 30 years I probably have a better knowledge than somebody who hasn't and is just quoting what they think the law is or should be rather than the facts.

I am not having a dig at you personally but you did sound off another poster trying to make them look stupid when you have no idea about the retail laws etc. and have just 'made stuff up'' like a lot of the internet!!!
