Every single product should have a unique barcode... that is partly the point of them.
I bought a Moshi Monster for £1.50 at Tesco last week, there are 6 different characters that you can get. I got one called Diavlo however the one I was really after was a different one called Furi (they had none of these ones left but they would have all been the same price).
So (this is what I may get flamed for) I took the Diavlo toy back to a Smyths store and asked them if I could exchange it for a Furi. They were charging £14.99ish for them in here but I just wanted a straight swap (Smyths also sold the Diavlo toy identical to the one I returned). I told them that I didn't have a receipt and they were fine about it, they scanned it and swapped it. It obviously scanned fine through the Smyths system despite it being bought at Tesco.
Edited to add: I didn't make any gain by doing this. I simply swapped an item that Smyths will now sell at £14.99ish for another of the same value. The company wouldn't be left out of pocket at all.:smileyhea Proud Mummy of 2 :smileyheaTotally addicted to Boots glitches & the Next sales!0 -

It would - as Smyths Moshi's have the same barcode.
Tesco and Smyths just have that barcode set to a different price.
If I picked up heinz Baked beans tomorow at Asda, Tesco and Morrisons they would all have the same barcode but I could scan all three tins at different stores and get different prices.
If I could find the pizza at tesco that they were selling that my moonsand was scanning at, and then took it to Smyths and scanned it it would show as 'moonsand' as it has the same barcode and I dont think Smyths sell pizzas.0 -

The pizza that your moondough was scanning at probably referred to the pizza moon dough set as opposed to just pizza (Smyths probably have sold the moon dough pizza set at some point).
As I said earlier though this is all beside the point, it just seems a very awkward way that Tesco have done this but I guess it's up to them to price/barcode up their stock how they see fit (so long as they're abiding by trading standards etc).:smileyhea Proud Mummy of 2 :smileyheaTotally addicted to Boots glitches & the Next sales!0 -
Yes I understand where your coming from but what my point is (and I forgot to mention this) the 90% sale in my store was not shown on any sel's the sel's remained the same I only fount out about the great bargains via here.
What is stupid, and maybe I shouldn't of used not fair but instead 'not right' is that there was 2 moon sand's on the shelf one scanned at £2 and the other at £9.99 exactly the same products but different prices, and my whole point about the not fair but was that I was with my friend who also wanted 1 but the last one on the shelf was the 1 scanning at 9.99 when me and loads of others got it for £2. Stupid if you ask me.0 -
Lindham bed rail still going through at 60p SEL £24.99
Also got a Zhu Zhu set for £2. Its still in car atm & I'm tired, so will add title and bc tomorrow - but it was a largish box with tubes that the zhu zhu hamsters zoom through.0 -
That was my point - they use the same barcode but have different (or 'their own' prices) on their systems which is why I said why don't Tesco change the price to the original barcodes on their system.

I may not have explained it very well... but... they cannot change the price that the barcode matches as there is another item in store that has the same barcode (in this case pizza), so if they changed the price ralating to the specific barcodes it would obvoiusly change the price of the other item too and nobody wants a 12.00 pizza!!
The way around it is to give it a new barcode - simples.0 -

and this one
They both came up on my receipt as pizza and in one store they were both in the same place (SEL was for the grocery set but had the pizza one behind it). They also both came up at £1.50 (though they have different barcodes) so I understood the 'pizza' description that comes up on the receipt to mean the pizza moon dough set rather than an actual pizza from the grocery dept (in fact the stores I bought these from were home stores that don't tend to stock groceries although I guess it's the still the same system used).:smileyhea Proud Mummy of 2 :smileyheaTotally addicted to Boots glitches & the Next sales!0
