I may not have explained it very well... but... they cannot change the price that the barcode matches as there is another item in store that has the same barcode (in this case pizza), so if they changed the price ralating to the specific barcodes it would obvoiusly change the price of the other item too and nobody wants a 12.00 pizza!!

The way around it is to give it a new barcode - simples.
Also this doesn't explain away the other moon dough set (breakfast) that has had stickers put over the barcode. Some had the stickers and scanned at £9.97 and the ones without the stickers scanned at £2 and come up on the receipt as moon dough.

All different companies do not use the same barcodes as loads of different items would therefore scan as the same thing and the same price.

Every single product should have a unique barcode... that is partly the point of them.
It would - as Smyths Moshi's have the same barcode.

Tesco and Smyths just have that barcode set to a different price.

If I picked up heinz Baked beans tomorow at Asda, Tesco and Morrisons they would all have the same barcode but I could scan all three tins at different stores and get different prices.

If I could find the pizza at tesco that they were selling that my moonsand was scanning at, and then took it to Smyths and scanned it it would show as 'moonsand' as it has the same barcode and I dont think Smyths sell pizzas.
These posts are quite a contradiction, this is where I've got a bit confused as to what you meant.

Anyway it's too late and I think we've probably bored enough people on the correct/incorrect usage of barcodes at Mr.Ts (what do I know anyway, I work at the other big supermarket :) so I know how their SELs/barcodes work but not Mr.T's). Off to bed for me...sorry to all the bargain hunters having to wade through our boring barcode chat.

Not sure why people choose to discuss label swapping on forums where they find good bargains. Sort of defeats the purpose of these boards.

Anyway, I've gained a few bargains myself the past few weeks, which was much needed having just had my DC2. I was hankering on for the doggy playdough set and had resigned myself to missing it as I'd not found it. Yesterday, I just couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them on a shelf at @shford (middx) with a £1.40 white label :j There were 4 and the boxes were a bit battered but who cares? Kids don't need the boxes when opened! No, I didn't take them all, I tend to leave some on the shelf for other people to share the bargains be they MSEr's or not.
AND... on the shelf above it was the Ocean Moondough set. I left plenty of these as I have enough for xmas pressies now. DS keeps spying my stash and asking if he can open them.

St@ines home + had a tiny section left where it was full of summer stuff like bubbles and sand shapes. I wasn't interested so didn't really notice prices, although DH bought 2 windbreakers for £3.xx each.

From what I remember, BB didn't have any bargains left last week and the one Thomas @ the farm was scanning high.

Duke$ Gr£en only had the hamster armour left at 80p each. I didn't check the prices of zhuzhu pet stuff but they had loads out (maybe new stock).

Sun6ury had naff all last Friday. Not sure if any of these stores stock up daily.

Hope that helps someone in terms of location and those still wanting items should not give up!

They both came up on my receipt as pizza and in one store they were both in the same place (SEL was for the grocery set but had the pizza one behind it). They also both came up at £1.50 (though they have different barcodes) so I understood the 'pizza' description that comes up on the receipt to mean the pizza moon dough set rather than an actual pizza from the grocery dept (in fact the stores I bought these from were home stores that don't tend to stock groceries although I guess it's the still the same system used).
I got a set like this is home bargains for 5.99 so 4.50 saving rather than 10.50 but still a good price if ur lucky enough to get for that :D

  • A new one from the Stationary aisle. Toy Story 3 Activity paper. 40 sheets. 20p! Barcode 5012128294983. Has a picture of Buzz and Woody on with Space Ranger printed along the bottom. Nice quality paper too!

Theres quite a few reduction in this aisle, some learning maths books are 20p. Just have to look at all the SELs.
