There was an excellent range, trousers, dresses, skirts, wool coats, jeans, jodhpurs and it was 1/3 off at my Sainburys for the Gok jacket I got. The coats were 45£.
  • I'm 5"2 and the black wrap dress fitted fine.
Yes the trousers are long but so are most ranges.

Gok dresses women that have problems with wobble bits etc
Yes the slips are very tight but you can still sit down....but not tried to go to the loo in it yet lol

Oooh great, I'm going there tonight, I'll have a peak. Shame they don't have changing rooms there anymore though.

Then she is the only woman in the world that would actually complain about needing a smaller size

I also complain about needing a smaller size - mostly because 8 years ago size 8 New Look jeans fit me (as a skinny prepubescent) and now at the same weight I cannot buy clothes without a huge struggle as the size 6s are ridiculously huge and size 4s aren't widely sold anywhere.

    I hate size inflation.

Sorry OP but I really think you are the issue and not the clothes, If you dont like that the size 12 does not fit you then loose a few lb then it will fit if that is not on option then just accept the facts and get a bigger size.

    Golly... that's a bit harsh, isn't it?

Please may I add my thoughts... I too rushed off in eager anticipation of this much-lauded Gok Wan collection. I thought, as some of Sainsbury's Tu clothing is quite good, that this partnership could be a winner.

Sadly, for me, definitely not. I arrived in my local store around 8.45am and staff were still putting the finishing touches to their displays. Chatting to one of the friendly assistants, it became obvious that there were already concerns about the length of some of the range (not for anyone under 5' 4", I'd say) and the fitting. I know Gok Wan is not a trained designer (by his own admission) and I guess he has had considerable help and advice, but I'm really not sure that this range will appeal to your 'average' Sainsbury shopper.

That said, it may not matter - there was a very excited looking 'marketing man' (all eager-beaver looks, gingham shirt etc) stroking the red dresses... and the cynic in me had a suspicion that maybe Sainsbury's don't really mind if this doesn't take off - it will certainly drive more customers in and it has definitely got us talking!

Back to the actual clothes. I did take the black slash-neck dress, the black jodphur-type leggings and the black trousers into the changing room to try. The jodphurs were a strange fit on me - too high waisted and far, far too long. Next, the slim fit trousers - again, far, far too long... and the cut was decidedly for a very slim figure. I'm afraid at this point, I gave up because, holding the dress up against me, it was mid calf-length - the most unflattering length in the world and so I abandoned the whole idea!

I'm not saying that the range is horrible -the core colours and designs are nice - if only the sizing was more universal - it could fly off the shelves. But, if the 50% of Sainsbury's customers who are 5' 4" or under cannot wear the range, it does seem a little ill thought-out.

By the way, although under 5' 4", I am a size 12, I don't need to lose weight (thank you!!) and have no problem with most other clothing ranges.

sent all the sainsbury assistants to London

I can confirm that not all Sainsburys assistants were sent to London! Not even all the clothing staff...

SS if i'm just being a little bit dense, but are slimming tops not supposed to be tight? I know you said you could not get it on, but surely the tighter it fits the slimmer you'll look making it better?

Don't bother unless your are reading the whole post and are actually interested .

the point if you are bothered is that nothing was wearable because the trousers were too long and too big /the dress fitted but the underwear was unwearable and the dress was too long-ok

I'm not a blethering idiot I can of course just buy another size but funny they dont let you swap bits of the dress!! You have to buy the whole thing but I will work on lengthening my legs as obviously us thick scottish people are too short!!

Why get your knickers in a twist about this particular range of clothes ? Surely this happens in every store to somebody every day ? I can never get trousers the right length as i'm short too, but i either shorten them myself or go somewhere else where they have the right length for me. Of course it would be fantastic if there was a shop where all the clothes were cheap and were made to fit me personally but i'm not holding my breath. Just go somehwere else and stop bashing Gok and Sainsbury's. You say the clothes are unwearable ? Bit of a sweeping statement isn't it ? Unwearable for everyone ? No, thought not.
I'm a size 18 but recently bought boot cut jeans in Asda which were size 14, fit perfectly and were exactly the right length for me. I can't get size 18's up my legs in some shops.
    It's life, move on.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with the title of this thread.

I too have returned from my local Sainsbo's disappointed, there are already v similar clothes in my wardrobe, which are much better made. The dresses were distinctly 1980's Dynasty with ridiculous shoulder pads, again I also have similar shift dresses w/o the excrutiating body slip.

Gok, you were supposed to make me look fantabulous. What on earth happened??!
