The IPM is getting involved with facebook comps


"After a meeting this week, it has been agreed with Facebook UK that Philip Circus, the IPM’s director of legal services, and IPM legal consultant Ruth Hobbs will suggest a new version of the social media site’s existing rules to make them clearer and also to ensure that they are in line with UK law and the UK marketing industry’s self-regulatory system, including the CAP Code.
These suggestions will then be put forward to Facebook’s headquarters in California for approval."

But Facebook don't bother to enforce their own guidelines- hence the huge numbers of voting / most like comps...
In fact, liking & / or sharing shouldn't be used a means of entering...

It looks like Facebook and the IPM are having to talk because of a new European directive
EU Set to Slap Facebook With Privacy Sanctions

According to The Telegraph, the Directive — which will be part of an update to current data protection laws — is scheduled for early January release. Should Facebook fail to adjust its privacy settings in compliance with the new legislation, the social network could face prosecution and/or a heavy fine.
