Thank you for your reply
I did set it up with a separate email address and even used a slightly different version of my first name, but somehow it's recognised me as the same person who has already got a profile and even asked me to change my profile picture to one that is actually me! I guess the problem might be because I've registered and gone on to 'like' pages and enter comps, without attempting to add friends. I'm not sure whether this is actually a requirement or not? Very odd.
Thank you anyway and thank you for finding and posting all the comps!Thank you so much to everyone who post & help with comps! :j

I'm not sure whether I'm posting in the right place but I have a question and wondered whether any of you lovely people would be able to help me please.
I've decided to start entering competitions on facebook but didn't want to use my normal account that's been active for a few years for various reasons, one of which being that some of the comps require you to post to your wall or comment etc. and I feel as though I don't want to hassle my facebook friends with all of this.
Anyway, I've set up a new account today, specifically to enter competitions. After 'liking' a few pages etc, facebook then logged me out and said that having more than one account violates their T&Cs. I had no idea this was the case, now I'm in a bit of a dilemma as I really don't want to use my usual account for comps.
What do you do about your facebook account when entering comps? Do you have more than one account? If so, how do you get around it?
Thank you
it may have spotted that you were the same ip address for both accounts. it is against facebook tos to have more than one account, same as not using your real name is not allowed!
did you add a mobile number when you registered the new account? i set up 2 new accounts once, 1 after the other (i wanted farmville neighbours and fake accounts were as good as any:rotfl:) the first one it let me sign up with its own email. the second one it insisted i prove i was a real person and add a mobile number for it to send a code to and verify me, so you could maybe try a free payg sim number?
otherwise also try separate browsers for each account and have them logged in at the same time, might help it look like its two people in the one house instead of the same person switching between accounts iyswim.
it doesnt say anywhere that your profile picture has to be of you, but maybe uploading a picture rather than using the fb blank auto avatar might help....i have used various animal/flower/otherwise not actually me pics with no problems so far.0 -

Facebook are disabling lots of 'comping' accounts lately - I don't think it's worth the risk of having two accounts as eventually Facebook security systems will pick up on them and delete one or both! I recommend using Lists to organise your single Facebook account, as they can solve the problem of keeping your comping activities separate from your work or family ones. I suggest adding a new list called ‘Compers’ - to add to and organise your lists, go to http://www.facebook.com/bookmarks/lists – or click ‘Friends’ on your profile page, and then work your way down the list. When you share or post a competition on your wall, select ‘Compers’ so you're only sharing with that list. When you add a new comping friend, pop them into the compers list straight away.
Being able to hide status updates is something you should make your friends aware of if you intend to do a lot of comping on Facebook. In your News Feed or Friends list, click to the right and you can choose which updates you see from each friend – ‘all updates’, ‘most updates’ (this is the default) or ‘important updates’. If you're worried about bothering particular non-comping friends and family, ask them to change their settings so they only see your important updates, then they won’t have your comping posts filling up their News Feed - they can always pop over to your Facebook page to catch up on anything they’ve missed. Also, if your friends don’t want to see your comments and likes in their Newsfeed, they can click to the right of any of your posts in their Newsfeed and choose ‘Unsubscribe from comments and likes’.
After entering a competition that auto-posts on your wall, you can always delete the post. Only friends/family who are logged on at the moment it posted will have seen it in their Newsfeed.
Hope this helps. I'm hoping to blog about this in more detail soon!0 -
Thank you lovely people for taking the time to reply!
I think I'm going to be sensible and close down the new account as I wouldn't want to lose my old account. I will go through your advice step by step SuperluckyDi and perhaps take care to only enter comps that won't mean I'm constantly posting comp info to my wall. I look forward to your future blog about it, that will be very helpful.
Purplecatlover - I did get asked for a mobile number to verify the account, so used my DHs and it did allow me to go through the process successfully. However I was worried it would deactivate my old account but thankfully it hasn't.
Oh well I have admitted defeat and am going back to being a good girl by sticking to the rules! lolThank you so much to everyone who post & help with comps! :j

During the short but unpleasant "War of the Regulars Stickies" a few months back, I begged and pleaded for us to have a section of the board where we could post competitions that required effort ie anything that required a little thought such as the composition of a poem, story etc or the taking of a photograph/creating a piece of artwork.
For various reasons, lots of compers have no choice but to comp by end date and if you come across an effort required comp 24 hours before it ends, you may well not have time to complete your entry.
I won an amazing prize last year with the La Senza storywriting competition - but only because I spent a week writing and revising my piece before submission.
I've tried searching for the term "effort" but not everybody adds it the comp title.
Of course, I may well be the only person who would find this useful.........and if that is the case I'll happily leave it be and defect to the Ducks for finding my effort comps:rotfl:
Feel free to tell me to shut up but I thought I'd raise the subject again in case anyone is either a) interested or b) can point me in the direction of a specialist site that lists story-type competitions.

Did I read somewhere that if I open a competition website from here in a new tab, it isn't linked in any way to the MSE website?
Is this what Amilucky does/means. (I'm not very IT)0 -
