  • loads of cheese sauce helps! I second pasta, or just serve it as it is with wedges of crusty bread and butter! It also goes well with sausages!

Cauliflower cheese, on it's own, is a bit too rich and samey. I can't think of anything worse for a main meal, where I look for different tastes and textures. I'd have to put some fillets of white fish into the sauce, along with macaroni, frozen peas and sweetcorn, or have it with salmon pieces and potato wedges.

To make it more appetising, you might try adding some savoury 'crumble' on top or a breadcrumbs and cheese topping.
But it's still a side-dish in my house!

I haven't eaten since 1.30pm yesterday and all this talk of comforting food at tea-time is making me hungry!

ETA in the days I used to eat it, I remember enjoying it with a good kidney-bean curry. Bland and spicy makes a great combo, used to be my comfort good of choice when back from a holiday abroad.

For me cauliflower cheese is a main course, as very filling, and contains lots of nutrients. Usually have some homemade bread with it, if peckish.

When preparing for others, I usually serve with pork chops, and something starchy, such as good homemade bread, or a good potato dish.

I've always thought fish, even fish fingers,go well with cauli cheese. Mmmm hungry now LOL.

Funnily enough, i just fed this to my 18 month old DS for tea, and he seemed pretty happy with it!

If serving alone, i usually add mixed frozen veg and some cooked gammon or chicken to add some extra protein.

When I was a kid, Cauliflower Cheese *was* the meal, all self contained :o (cheese, and milk for the sauce, was the protein element; cauli the veg element and the flour used to make the sauce was the carb element; the butter in the sauce provided the fat content). :D

When I became an adult and began going out for meals, I noticed it was used as a "side dish" :rotfl: Who knew? :o

    Got a craving now ... mmmm, cauli-cheeeeeeeeese!!!!!!
