Yes, sorry a WG602.
Er.... Perhaps more like:
Original cable modem
Wireless Router
PC connected via Ethernet
PC's connected via wireless

If it's a WG602 it's only got one ethernet port so how are the PC and Cabel Modem both connected to it? Do you have a hub or switch as well? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
i can't see why you would need that computer there if you don't use it for anything else
all pcs should beable to connect to the internet just using the netgear WG602 which is connected to your cable modem0 -

The modem is connected to the WG602 via USB and the PC is connected to the WG602 via ethanet. ( I can hear you all chuckling now

If I turn the PC off that's connected to the WG602 all other pc's can access the internet.
I did specify on set up within Windows, that this machine be the one that the others 'access through' .... should I have not done that perhaps ?0 -
Probably better if you hadn't !:rotfl:
To be honest you'd be better off replacing it with a wireless router like a Netgear WRG614. That way you have wireless connectivity but it also has a hardware firewall built in that gives you an extra layer of security. They're around £40 new.
Alternatively you should be able to configure your access point so it is not dependent on you main PC.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide

I'm even more confused now, I've just been looking at the online manuals and I can't see a WG602 that has a USB port?!?!?!?It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide

If you have a WG602, it does not have a USB connector! It is a wireless access point and should be connected to your cable modem using an Ethernet cable. All PC's then get their internet connection via the access point and none of them need to be left switched on. This assumes that you actually have a WG602, and it's all explained in the user manual. It is not necessary to replace your access point with a router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I'm sorry if I'm being a pain !
Def a WG602, though on checking again:
Modem >>> Pc Connected via USB >>> WG602 connected via ethanet
Does that sound more like it ?0 -

No the modem connects directly to the access point via an Ethernet cable. You do not use the nasty USB cable!
The idea of an access point is that it communicates the signals to/from the modem via wireless. This allows any PC to connect via the access point and none of the PC's need to be left switched on. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
