Well another way of doing it is to connect a wireless router to the NTL connection. This would stay on 24/7 instead of the PC. Any of your PC's can then connect to the wireless router, as and when required. This is the normal way to share a cable connection. Here is an example of a DSL wireless router.

Perhaps I should have purchased this item rather than the Netgear one I bought ? I understood at the time though that if I was using NTL cable, then I would have to go through a pc which was permanently on. Was that not the case, or has this changed recently due to new (?) products like this one ?

Well I don't know what you have bought but if you have a Netgear wireless router connected to your PC, the PC does not have to be switched on for the router to work with the other PC's wirelessly. Sorry I have just had a phone call and need to go out now but post the make/model of your Netgear kit and I'm sure we will be able to help you.

  • Thanks espress, I can appreciate you're busy.

The Netgear access thing is the NG602.

Do you mean a WG 602? that looks like a wireless access point. I can't see a NG602 on the netgear site.

Exactly how is your network setup?

Typically if you are on cable and have a wireless router you have it set up as follows

    Original Cable Modem
    |
    |
Wireless Router- - - - - pCs connected via wireless
    |
    |
    PC connected via Ethernet
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
