Whilst you make some valid points not only in Post 49 but also in the discussion you had about grouting the edge of tiles earlier up the thread there is a world of difference between paying someone to do a job professionally and it being cocked up wholesale and what might be acceptable from a DIY POV. What is acceptable on a DIY basis might be bodgery from a tradesmans perspective. Bodgery is never acceptable from a tradesman IMHO.

Quite. The whole point about employing a professional was to have it done to a high standard so that it adds value to the house. This would look like a DIY job, and were I to sell, it might well reduce the value of the house.
He has now said his electrician will visit to give the Part P certification. But only when I told him via email that his explanation that his work did not require certification, because he had done so much, was unacceptable. However, he should be out in a few hours.
Incidentally the house is not occupied, except by me when painting and decorating.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Can that be done? I can fit coving no problem, but I don't know if a plasterer can skim the corners, and surely he'd have to tape.
I am thinking about telling him to leave tomorrow morning, and asking a local building firm to take a look, for a fee of course, and give a short written assessment. If they say it is fine, mmm, but if they say the workmanship is poor, then I am firmer ground.
Good morning: expert advice is available here
Btw...where did you find these bathroom fitters?

Thank you. I found them via CheckATrade, and I contacted two of the references, who gave glowing accounts of three jobs (one person's daughter also used them).
I threw them out this morning. I could not open the garage, and then was told they had put bolts/screws in to 'secure it' without my knowledge. They told me I was 'on output' and not listening. They also told me all their customers ask for the shower at the opposite end to the taps.
Is there any issue with sewer gas? They shoved a bin liner down the hole, but it was still a bit wiffy after sheets were removed from the floor. So I left an upturned baking tray over it.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

Really? Why don't I believe that?
As for checking, how do you know the references weren't 'set up' by themselves? (I don't know how that scheme works, I only know I was born cynical and prefer good old fashioned word of mouth from people you know personally.
Just stick a black bag over it and tape it to try to keep the smells in btw.
Most of us at one time or another will have been affected by shoddy trademen. It feels horrible right now but you'll get past this.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Incidentally I will ask a respected company who I will ask to redo the work to provide a report on the bathroom as is.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

check a trade is a paid for service...if your paying, you can vet reviews.
dont get too caught up on this, the job isnt the worst i've seen by far. Its not the best, but if they are prepared to put it right (have you given them a chance?) you may save a packet.
its very easy to spot one problem and then start looking and picking at every little thing.
I can see a quite a few in the pictures, but none that are irreversible.0
