Halifax Online - Add Account ?

Hi all,

I've been with Halifax for quite some time, always found the Online Banking excellent however now due to merging with Lloyds TSB banking systems they have obviously changed it to be much more simplistic as opposed to the old version.

I'd like to add my sons "Kids Regular Saver" onto my Halifax Online service so that I can view the balance, transactions, details etc, I'm named on it but obviously it is in his name overall. The telephone support earlier today said I should be able to add it but they couldn't tell me how.

I don't see an option for it anywhere. When I search the help section on the Halifax website it comes up with a link telling you how to do it (possibly for the old version of Halifax Online?) but when I click the link the page displayed is something different.

I've noticed this with a couple of other searches I've done of the help section, getting "page not found" on some occasions.

Thank you in advance.

Just wondering if anyone knows how I can add this account to my Halifax Online service please?

I had no problems to do this in the past, there used to be a section called 'my portfolio' where you could add and delete accounts. I've just logged on to Halifax tell you how to do it, but you're right' it's not there anymore!

Which telephone number did you ring?

I'd phone 08456 02 00 00 (or non-geographic alternative from saynoto0870), the 24-hour internet banking helpline, and ask them to guide you through it on the phone.

It will not let you view the account anymore I am afraid, trustee account you see, does not come under your portfolio of accounts, great isn't it! The system they have gone to (which is the same software as Lloyds) cannot manage or deal with trustee/club/treasurers accounts.

Personally though be patient with Halifax I honestly believe that this is just a temporary issue. Your child's account is still there & you'll receive statements as normal.

I can't help you with how to do it, but I can tell you that my child's saver is still showing on my Internet banking, so it should be possible.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

I would expect existing accounts to remain on the service if they have made changes.

However I have looked and I can't find the option to add a new account anywhere. I'd suggest the telephone helpline.

You might expect it (as most people would, considering they have not been informed otherwise), but it doesn't seem to be working like that ... :(

Thank you for the replies, nat38, rb10, pinkdalek, mrmajika and anniecave.

Yep as I thought I guess they have removed the ability to add an account as far as I can see.. strange.. must be due to the change over in systems.

I called an 0800 number yesterday and they were prepared to transfer me to the Online Helpdesk, I do have the geographical number but I've been really busy at the moment so I've not had time to call them.

I did consider that I'm the trustee and so perhaps it won't let me view the account.. I even tried to register my son for Online Banking but.. "d'oh" the minimum age is 16 and so it isn't possible.

It would just be nice to be able to view this account online, to check the money has gone in each month etc but oh well..

It is also kind of annoying and I've noticed this with the Halifax lately, you ask questions and they either don't know the answer, or the branch tells you a different answer to the telephone customer service..

Last year they made a right pigs ear of my ISA and I felt so strongly that I wrote them a letter of complaint asking for it to be put right and to be compensated.. I was really surprised to have it all resolved very quickly and they even gave me more than double the compensation I had asked for (£70 in total!) which somewhat made up for the stress/inconvenience.

Has anyone noticed an odd anomaly with the Online Banking? I made some transfers between accounts last night (September 30th 2011) and they did not appear right away, as they usually did. Instead when I check this evening some of the transfers I made have appeared with the date October 3rd 2011? that is two days in the future from now! Spooky or what?

Perhaps halloween is coming early at the Halifax.. or there is a Gremlin in the system.. either way.. I am sort of concerned about this Online Banking now..

The Lloyds TSB Online Banking software - reliability at it's finest? argh!
  • I've encountered the same problem. On Tuesday this week, I opened a Young Saver and a Kid's Saver for my kids, and closed their Save4It accounts. When I logged in to online banking the next day, the Save4Its were showing with a nil balance, but there was no sign of the new accounts (nor the money!) and no option to add them as I recall having previously done manually. When I spoke to the guy in the branch who dealt with me on Tuesday, even he was convinced that the add account option was available online - I told him to log on and see for himself that it had gone. That stumped him!

However, I spoke with the Internet Help Desk today and have been assured that although there is now no option to add them yourself, my new accounts will appear some time this week and the fact I am a trustee is not a problem - I would get access to any account my name was on.

Registered an official complaint at the delay in getting online access to these accounts. I could accept maybe 24 hour delay, but any longer is unacceptable as I am unable to access the funds any other way due also to fact these new children's accounts do not have passbooks. So my 7 year old will shortly be receiving her first PIN and ATM card! Another reason I'm not entirely happy with their new "system".
