PS2 not outputting to new HD TV-please advise??!

Options
Hello all....(again!). My lovely new tv ( http://www.toshiba-om.net/LCD/lcd_ch...nguage=English SL is series, model no . sl738, screen size 42 ) is not outputting to tbv screen. Tred all outputs with remote.

Currently connected by SCART (scart socket with the red, yellow, white pins in it)...nothing appearing when I flick to that output. Tried putting pins in the red/yellow/white input settings in back of tv-again nothing. I have checked the obvious like the output switch being on on the scart (!).

Any ideas?

    Hi there,

Did your PS2 work with your old TV OK? (Might be an obvious question, but it helps.) And do you get any sound?

Anyone? Driving me nuts...can't see why it shouldn't work?? On the old TV you had to select 'AV' if that makes any difference?

I'm assuming you get no sound when you plug it in using the white and red audio cables too?

You say you're using SCART but then say you're using red yellow white pins.

    Are you using this

    Scart.png or this composite-cable.jpg

to connect to your TV? (Not what comes out of the PS2)

Be patient, I'll try to help whenever I get back to this forum.

My initial feeling is there just a couple of settings to change, but I need to be sure about what cable you're using and also about the sound issue.

Scrillia-thanks! It's BOTH of those...a scart with the 3 pins plugged in the back of the scart socket itself.

Update.....been reading on some forums that on a 1080p HD tv it won't accept low res signals from PS2??? Also that I may have to go into settings for ps2 (luckily still have crt tv upsatairs)- & if I change it to composite & plug the yellow/red/white pins into the composite holes on back of tv it may work???

^^^^ this vaguely rings a bell...in the same way a PS3 if set for a HD tv won't display back on a crt without changing the settings before unplugging from the hdtv....it's a bit of a faff unfortunately :(

If you hold down the power button for 5-6 seconds (until you hear the second beep), the PS3 should reset the display res to the default.

I'm not sure if the PS2 has a similar function or not though.

I can't remember either, and haven't got one hooked up at the mo to try it :(

Yes, it'll be to do with the input/output compatibility.

Buy yourself a cheap component video cable. This will allow your PS2 to output at a decent enough quality for your TV to accept. (Your currently have composite video cables going into your SCART adaptor). Connect according to the colours on the cables to match you TV sockets. You will need to set your TV input to ->4 or ->5 depending on which sockets you used.

This bit, you'll do blind since you won't get a picture, even with the new cables. You are basically navigating through the system menus by following these steps.
    1) Turn PS2 on with no game in (make sure turned on from scratch with no game in).
    2) Wait about 20 secs for start-up sequence to finish.
    3) Press down on D-pad, then X
    4) Wait a couple of seconds, then press up twice on d-pad, then press X
    5) Wait a bit again, then press left once on d-pad, then press X then restart machine.
    5) Your machine should restart and you should see a picture.

Oh, you could of course use your upstairs TV to change your video settings from RGB output to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr output (and from there on you won't get a picture on your upstairs TV).

Marley says that you should scrap the idea of going through the Scart, and plug the Composite cables directly into the television (using the composite inputs on the side of the TV rather than the back). He didn't have to change any settings on the PS2.

(Believe me, there would have been ructions in our household if his PS2 didn't work with our HDTV!)
