  • apologies but I think you are missing the point - the machines are opened regularly - but one phone call was made in an hour to gain authorisation (+ even then the manager said he did not have any messages or missed calls). So any argument about the ownership, accounting or security of opening a machine to pay me out does not stack up as if contact was made the same process would have taken place.Ii would like to challenge Betfred's position that they do not have money available to pay out customers + that they are quite happy to call the police after one inadequate attempt to contact a manager to carry out a routine transaction in their shop.
  • arcon5 - you should maybe stick to things you know at least a little bit about - prices going up in bookmaker's are good for the customer. I can confirm there are no large signs advising customers that they may not be paid out.

If your counting is as good as the rest of the brains you have shown in your replies I can see that counting a few hundred pounds could take you + a colleague a long time but for most normal people this would take 5 minutes tops to count + check against a pre-printed voucher from the till.

You got the winnings enjoy them and stop going on about it.
Go buy a bottle of glens vodka and a bottle of lemonade.

edit: betfred never keeps huge amounts of money on them. I won £900 once in the machine and had to wait like 20 mins for staff to go to RBS go get more cash.

I thought at first that the Gambling Commission might be able help you, but their website says...
We do not assist individuals in resolving consumer complaints about gambling transactions (for example, we do not assist in obtaining a refund of stakes placed, or put into a gaming machine).
The next sentence of same document says...
Licence holders are required to have written procedures for handling customer complaints, as well as arrangements for disputes to be referred to an independent third party.
So it's back to Betfred and ask for a copy of their complaints procedures.

It doesn't take a geneous to figure out I wasn't referring to the payout you receive when you win, but what it costs when you loose

I didn't ask was there large signs.. I asked if there was a notice, this doesn't really have to be anything larger than A4 but openly available for you to read.

And the sign wouldn't say they won't pay out, in would explain their procedure for paying out larger sums. The former implies they don't intend to pay you the legally owed sum, the latter is an alternate procedure to follow in such events.

Okay, do humour me.... what limit would you consider reasonable to be able to payout within ten minutes of winning?
What if I won £10k perhaps?
  • Arcon, don't waste your time on this obvious troll.

He has his money now, what does he actually want?

It would be obvious to me that the takings will be kept to a minimum after (say) 5pm.

A bookmaker who doesn't have £300 on the premises? Pull the other one.

I am happy to be corrected but I was always lead to believe that legally a bookmakers doesn't have to honour a bet. However in practice they do because they operate a business so if for instance betfred didnt pay losing bets then people would not use them and they would go bust
